If Things Were Different – Chapter 3
Previously:
“How dare you?” Bette’s eyes flashed, “That woman pleased me for seven years in more ways than you can imagine. She would’ve continued pleasing me had I not been so weak. You’re not a tenth of the woman she is!”
Bette was fuming; her chest heaving and jaw set. She knew that she was lashing out at Candace but she didn’t care. They were both to blame and Bette needed for her to suffer like she had been.
“So why are you here?” Candace asked, visibly hurt by Bette’s words.
“That’s a fucking good question” Bette retorted. She grabbed her keys and left the house. Within seconds she as in her car, she looked up to see her brief lover on the porch.
“That woman is the love of my life” She said indignantly, eyes filling, “She always will be.” and with that, began her drive to The Planet, where she hoped she’d find the love she’d lost.
Chapter 3:
Bette sat, wallowing silently in her own memories, weeping endlessly as her heart produced fresh breaks. She felt no pity for herself; she’d caused the ruptures herself. Again she found herself seeking control as the sobs threatened to be thrown from her throat. She did not want the woman in the room down the hall hearing her break down.
With her back against what used to be their bed, she calmed herself with thoughts of their happy times. Together; some of which had taken place right behind her. Despite the fact that she was looking back on what she no longer had, Bette could do nothing but smile at the years they’d cherished.
As her cries subsided, she recounted more scenes in her head, recent conversations. The days over which Bette’s need for confessional release had grown.
Bette’s sat at The Planet with Alice, they’re drinking coffee and waiting for Tina to drop Angelica off.
“You know she’s seeing Kate Arden now?” Alice asks, studying Bette’s face closely.
Thankfully, Bette had already heard this little piece of gossip and managed to refrain from giving the shocked response her friend was looking for.
“Yes, I did hear” Bette glanced quickly at her watch. Tina wasn’t late but she sighed anyway. Alice’s words, despite already knowing of Tina’s newest catch, had still felt like sharp ice.

Tibette’s fatal flaw: lack of communication. I hope it’s not a permanent condition, but your portrayal of it is spot on.
AD I must say that for one page chpaters I love it. Your pain for Bette is felt and the words that Tina says are the same, can’t wait for the next installment. Great job AD!!
Love your story, short and frustrating though it is!!
AD!!!! BRILLIANT as EVER! I loved it! I love the endearment slip. * wink * This is awesome girl, but then again, you know I am biased and love your work.
Hey, darling! Thanks! PPS!
Bette needs to get her gluteus in gear and go physically after her woman or through some other method before it is too late. Go Get Her Bette!
go after her Bette!
I agree with rufus, if they could only talk to each other, they’d be alright, but somehow they forget to everytime it’s important
