If You Never Say Anything to Me ch. 25

“Yes Mom, I do. I can’t explain it but she’s someone that I can see in my life for a long time.” She was silent for a moment which had me a little worried. She typically just said what was on her mind.

“Tina, not that I’m a cynic generally but, wouldn’t it be better to date a few women before falling in love with one?”

I heard her. I knew what she was saying. It probably was no different than I would say to one of my own clients. Should I really fall for the first woman that I have an interest in who shows interest in me? It made sense that I shouldn’t. I could understand every argument about why I shouldn’t but none of that mattered. Regardless to whom I meet now, the bar has been set and they couldn’t compare to the Bette that I was getting to know. I truly love Shane and like Dana and Alice a lot but I couldn’t see myself with someone like them. Bette was simple yet so dimensional. I know that doesn’t make sense. I see the person that I am getting to know as someone who is not hiding. She sees what she wants and she goes after it. That’s the simple part. The multi dimensional parts about her comes from her being a police officer yet being as talented as she is as an artist. She has many acquaintances, yet only a few friends. Without me even knowing, she was the person I had been looking for, before I began looking.

“Mom, I probably should date others before falling totally in love with Bette but I don’t see that happening. I didn’t really question the feelings I was having when I realized I had an attraction to women. I just went with it. I’m not going to question falling in love with her either. She is the person I feel I’m supposed to have in my life.” My thoughts were jumbled so I hoped that I had said everything that I was thinking.

“Sweetie, you don’t have to convince me. I was just throwing that out there. I’m glad that you’ve met someone. She sounds wonderful and I can’t wait to meet her. Be careful of your heart but don’t hide it and miss out on something that may be wonderful.”
