“She knows who you are,” Helena mumbled, fidgeting uneasily in the hard, upright chair. She searched her pockets for cigarettes but found none, “she knows.”

“Good,” Dr Kennard replied, “that’s a good step,”

Helena shook her head from side to side, her voice disintegrating into strangled words, “No it’s not, it’s not … I can’t do this again.”

Dr Kennard unfolded her legs and rose from her chair, passing behind Helena to retrieve a cigarette from the case upon her desk.

“Here,” she passed it to Helena, watching as she hurriedly lit it, “we’ve talked about this Helena, it’s part of your recovery.”

“Then I want to stay sick,” Helena replied sullenly.

Bette pulled up a chair in The Planet and sat down, pleased to see Marina arrive seconds later with a hot cup of coffee and a smile.

“You look like you need this?” Marina stated, Bette’s hair a bit of a mess as she ran her fingers through it repeatedly,

“I do …” Bette mumbled, taking a quick sip of the steaming coffee, “ouch,” she muttered, “hot!”

    Marina chuckled, “Well duh!”

Bette threw her briefcase onto the tabletop and pulled out her laptop, thinking it was the best idea she’d had all morning to give up on the four walls of her apartment and step out to her new favourite café bar. Hoping the change of pace and change of scenery would help her when it came to drafting compelling arguments for her overdue grant proposal.

It had a two-fold advantage, in that it stopped her from staring pitifully at the doors across the courtyard which lead into Helena’s living room. Doors which hadn’t opened in nearly two days, the house displaying no sign of its occupant or in fact whether Helena had lived or died following her Thursday morning, post-sex therapy session.

Bette’s mind wandered down that road as she stared dreamily into the distance, barely paying attention to the blonde who walked in the door a few moments later, wearing tight blue jeans, a loose fitting blouse and a strangely familiar pair of killer blue heels.

She focused in on them, then traversed the legs that they belonged to, ending finally by staring at the back of the blonde woman’s head, willing her to turn around so she could confirm whether or not it was in fact the same person.

    1. Ahhhgggg…Helena’s not the only one that won’t give straight answers. Well, now we at least know how Marina fits into the picture. Something happened with Evie and Helena feels in some way responsible. Oh well, I’ll have to wait until tomorrow for another piece of the puzzle!

    2. Thank you for the lovely present, I’m touched and honored. You know, I like BettyV, but she’s gonna have to wait for her own birthday, I ain’t sharing! The flavor of this thing is far less A. Spelling than that of a couple of sinister romances that starred Barbara Stanwyck: Double Indemnity and The Strange Love of Martha Ivers. Both of them great films. I’m enjoying this.

    3. ok, Ms. Sofasitte the way I figure it, it’s almost morning in your part of the world, and in my mind that means were close to getting another installment of this story, week-end and all maybe two, well anyway, Ms jigsaw I NEED MORE. Thank you. Md

    4. oooooooh, i can’t wait to see you! i’m going to go outside and run around the block fifty times to burn off this crazy energy which is caused when i know that i’m going to see you soon. ok, i’m going to re-read this story…it really is good, and i like that things are unfolding in their own good time. brilliant love, seriously!

    5. (a referral may be needed)…Geezus, couch…you’re killing me here! I’ve had a really really really long and horrible day…so tired…and now drinking wine…and I’ve read this chapter like three times…And you’re effing killing me! YOU AREN’T ANSWERING ANY QUESTIONS!!!! You are stimulating more!! Dagnabit! You’re evil…severely evil! :) (But I love it…despite the fact that it makes me feel excruciatingly stupid)…Gawwwwwwwwwd! Did Tina have a fling with Hel…and Evie kill herself?…or…did…Uh…What’s that number of that shrink? And I don’t wanna see Dr. Kennard…she’s scaring me! Evil! Pure, unadulterated evil, you are! :) Keep it coming…UMMMMM…not that I like evil…me not like that…but…oh…couch…you just really better give me some answers soon…puhleeze!! (And tanks to you for posting daily…I’m always happily surprised that you do…quite an accomplishment!) :) :) :) You are really really frustrating me! pfffffffffft :P :)

    6. Once again I just caught up.I am utterly perplexed how Tina fits into the story. Umm isn’t against ethics to counsel somebody you had a prior relationship with no matter what kind.

    7. hhhhhhmm mysterious, plz post soon…love Dr Kennard’s signature fuck me blue heels…this sounds like a tragedy of romeo and juliet proportions…keep bette safe, she sounds so naive…again pps.

    8. ack, what happened to Evangeline, what happened??? This history repeating itself, I hope it’s not cause for serious worry… but whatever happened, it made Helena a chain-smoking recluse and Marina unforgiving. If it repeats itself, I fear for everyone involved… great, sofa, love the story. ta

    9. Very, very mysterious story… Just brilliant! When I started to read this chapter I was full of hope to get some answers to all those questions. And you know what? Now I have even more questions than I had before! You could throw in some answers every now and then, before we’re going to die from to much suspense! :-D And yes, you make my day every day you post ;-) Keep up the good work. More and PPS!

    10. i love this storrrry…why didn’t my comment last night stick? i commented. grrr…anyway, i think this is sheer brilliant brilliance! i want to read more and i’ll wait patiently for it. reading this while watching Adaptation is a jolly good and mind bending thing to do. xoxox baby *smile*
