Bette grinned. “So you were flirting with me!”
“Yes. I admit it.” Helena said. “I told you I knew what I wanted.”
Bette smiled.
“Bette, why did you get so upset earlier? When Alice was here?”
The smile left her faced and Bette shook her head. “I don’t know. I think because I felt like you were saying that you thought I was gonna be an easy lay because I’d had a lot to drink. I don’t fucking know. Suddenly, it just didn’t feel very romantic…the way it was being described.”
“I think I understand, Darling.” Helena reached up and wrapped her hand around the back of Bette’s neck. She pulled her down and kissed her lips softly. “Does it feel romantic now?”
“Mmm. I don’t know. Can’t you do a little better?” Bette jested.
“Careful, Darling. Or I’ll send in Alice’s monkey to take over.”
“No thank you. That’s ancient history,” Bette quipped.
Chapter 16
Bette awoke in Helena’s arms.
“Did you sleep well, Darling?”
“Mmm. I did,” Bette yawned, kissing Helena before looking over to the clock on her bedside table.
8:30 a.m.
“Shit!” Bette threw the covers back quickly and jumped up.
Helena grinned as she took in the view of Bette’s naked body hurriedly retrieving her robe from the floor and donning it. Helena wrapped herself into a ball.
Bette looked up into Helena’s smirk, as she felt for her sash to tie.
“See something you like?” Bette teased, finding the elusive band of cloth and tying it into a loose knot.
“Well, I did until you hid it,” Helena gurgled. She quickly cleared her throat.
“I’m sorry,” Bette apologized. “Angie is usually up early. Hungry! God, she’s gonna kill me!”
Helena just grinned and watched Bette fall all over herself to become presentable to her daughter.
“You’re quite adorable, Darling,” Helena said as she watched Bette grab the doorknob and hurry out into the hallway.
“You’re crazy!” Bette grinned hugely, closing the door.
The alarm clock, which was set for a daily awakening at 8:35, began to play Nat King Cole.

Wow, I knew Bette worked out but I had no idea she was strong enough to pick Helena up with one had by the scruff of her neck and carry her around that way. Not that Helena’s neck is scruffy. Or fluffy. Now I know Nat King Cole was great (Amazing to think he didn’t think he could sing. Ever heard his early trio? Damn, he was great on the piano, too.) but is wonderful music a good enough reason to scuttle a fine romance just starting for dewy eyed remembrances of a lost love gone very wrong? And wouldn’t a full blown NC-17 be a good way to drown the memories? Hmmm?
hmmm…don’t know, funny…wonderful music often seems a reason to do and remember lotsa things…let me ask Sugar…Sugar, whatcha think?…sorry…no answer…she’s busy playin’ with her balloon…gawd, she’s got the cutest little butt! :D We’re listening to Steely Dan now…gets back to ya…
I’m a Dan fan, too. I suppose you’re allowed to think a kitten’s butt is cute, but not cute, if you know what I mean. Not like Bette and Helena’s butts-pure unadulterated cute. Memories have their time and place, but should they drown the present and future?

i feel for Tina, even though i rarely do, but mostly i feel for Fluffy…lol…Angie’s rough for a cute little toddler…i loved it pps
Aw I felt sorry for the poor kitty to be held like that but I guess that’s how kids are hum. The song was great but what the heck is Tina’s problem? She doesn’t have to ut all the blame on Bette, she did her part of screwing things up pretty well too. She better gets over it. I think she’s going to have a fit when she finds out that a) Angie got a kitty and b) Bette is dating the Lion queen :). Can’t wait to see what’s gonna happen next
Hey Zheese, Love the romance of the music carrying all the gals on a voyage of memories and sentimentality. Music is the perfect tool to ellict strong feelings and reminiscences. For Bette and Helena it is a means to mark these special moments in their life together. For poor Tina it is a recollection of how wonderful things were and never will be again. Angelica managed to add te humor of the piece with her perfect childish statement. So she has been watching Bette and Helena together when they were unaware and seen more than she should have??? Can’t wait to read more of this fun filled festival of fiction. WIll be waiting. Thank you so much for sharing it so frequently with me, Your Loyal Fan.
Z once again you did a great job of this chapter. The past comes so many times when a child is involved and this is not the exception for Bette,Tina and Helena. But when love is over there is nothing that can bring it back but another love from someone else. I liked the song ;)
