    Into The Flames

    September 11, 2001

    New York

Everything was a blur. Thick, grey smoke blocking every path, pieces of the building falling down on their heads. The fire was thick. Raging angrily through every floor. Already people started jumping out. I guess they figured shattering every bone in their body with a 100 foot drop was better than being burned alive.

One tower had already gone down. This one was next. The three fire fighters aimed for the exit. They had lost their team along the way. They didn’t know if they even got out alive.

A loud cry of a child pierced the sound barrier. The three fire fighters froze looking around desperately for the child. The brunette with caramel skin by the name of Bette Porter, was the captain of the team. She had already lost most of her people.

“Fairbanks, McKutchen, get out now!” she ordered spotting the child crying near the burning elevators.

“We can’t leave you Bette!” Fairbanks said.

“It’s not a question Dana!” Bette responded.

“No man left behind,” Dana insisted.

“Shane, get her out!” Bette cried.

“Sorry, I’m with her on this,” Shane said.

Bette rushed toward the child, ignoring her subordinates who didn’t seem to obey her orders at the time.

    “Gimme the kid!” Shane cried.

Bette hurriedly passed the young blonde boy to Dana who hurriedly passed him to Shane. Shane immediately rushed to the exit.

A loud bang was heard as the ceiling started caving in. “Shit!” Dana cried.

Bette moved to run toward the exit when a scarring hot piece of metal jammed out from the elevator slammed right into Bette’s chest.

Bette fell to the floor, pain searing through her body. “Bette!” she heard Dana cry out as she struggled to remain conscious.

Dana lifted Bette onto her shoulder, putting pressure on Bette’s bleeding chest as she dragged them toward the exit.

“The building’s going down! Hurry!” they heard Shane screaming from the exit.

Dana forced her legs to go faster, Bette was becoming dead weight on her shoulder. The building collapsed along next to its fallen sister, causing a huge explosion that sent Dana and Bette flying through the air.

Bette lost consciousness before she even hit the ground. “Medic! Medic!” Shane cried running to her fallen partners. “Oh God please let them be okay!”
