Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Two (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

“That’s all I wanted to know. Thanks so much for the help.” She opened the front door and moved to the side so he could step out. “Oh, and from what I have seen so far, you’re running a pretty tight ship. Excellent work, I’ll make sure to tell my father.” She smiled genuinely.

“Thank you, ma’am.” Henry beamed – proud of the compliment. “I’ll be on my way. Please don’t hesitate to call for me if you need anything. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Maldives and have a safe flight home..” He said with the biggest of smiles. And after that, he was gone.

Bette shut the door and leaned back against it, closing her eyes and burying her face in her hands. Her face felt hot – burning, even – mirroring the surge of volatile emotions she felt bubbling up deep inside. Remembering the numbers she had just received and taking into account the numerous other TPR hotels in the world, her head throbbed continuously – with the pain intensifying by the second. “Shit.” She cursed beneath her breath, deep worry lines making an appearance on her young face.

    “Babe?”

A call from within the bathroom made her straighten up – bringing her crashing back to reality and away from the dark place where her fears were taking her. With a deep breath, she willed her worries away and drove them to the back of her mind – at least for the meantime. “By the door baby..” Bette answered, running a tired hand through her curly tresses.

“You okay?” Tina asked, noticing the nauseous look on Bette’s face. Drying her blonde hair with a towel, she looked worriedly at her girlfriend. “Is it hurting again?” Her eyes darted downwards, stopping at the brunette’s shorts.

“No.” Bette shook her head, saying the truth. And for the first time since she got stung by the jellyfish, she began to wish that she felt that tingling sensation again. Instead of.. this. Instead of feeling the crippling fear that was eating her up inside. “It doesn’t hurt one bit.”

    “You sure?”

    “Uh-huh.”

“Good.” Tina smiled. “So are you all set? Ready to go back to reality?”

Bette froze momentarily and gave a small, sad smile. “Yes..” She whispered. And this time, it was a lie. A big fat lie.

She wasn’t ready.. but she had to be.

    1. Brilliant, as always, Alchemy. Your dialogue and descriptions are so funny. The image of itchy, swollen Bette is just hilarious, especially the breakfast scene. I always look forward to your posts as they brighten any day! Thanks so much for continuing this story.

    2. A hairbrush is a good way to help relieve the itch. Damn jellyfish and other stinging things. I guess that the economic situation is even hitting the fan fiction stories. I love Bette and Tina with their humor along with their love.

    3. Poor Bette, she is too young to be in this economical dilemma. Is it that bad?, is she afraid she has to reduce the number of employees by firing them?, O Alchemy, I’m really hooked up and want to know what will happen :)

    4. Okay… after the fun in the sun with Alice and Shane, and Bette’s… unfortunate (but funny)… bite on her derrière, I’m now worried. Why are the number of employees significant? Is Bette worried about the sheer amount of people she’ll have in her employ? What’s going on with Melvin? What’s happening with PGC? It’s all very ominous, but very gripping. Love the story, thanks Alchemy.

    5. Have I told you I LOVE this story?? Their bantering is so funny & I love both the tenderness & the roughness between them. As you know the “…” are my favorites- they speak volumes..I mean I can SEE the expressions on their faces! And now you leave us hanging tooo…You are SO VERY AWESOME!!

    6. Ok ack to reality humhum. Number of emplyee making Bette seek? Why? trouble trouble trouble. Tat was great love it as usual and sooooo funny. PPVS

    7. That was great, funny about Alice and Shane. Poor Bette about the itchy lol, that was funny and cute. Now let see whats going with the Porters business. Please post more, thanks!
