Just The Girl, Stories: Redwind Revisited (Anger Management)

    “And you don’t?”

“Of course not, I’m too busy trying to pry your head out of your butt to ever blow smoke up it.”

“That’s very.. um.. considerate of you.”

    “I know, right?”

    “I was kinda being sarcastic.”

    “So was I.”

Around me, this girl always acted as if I had punched her grandmother on the face. We infuriated each other. Well.. I admit, I annoy her more than she annoys me, but still, we pressed each other’s buttons quite a lot. I did every thing I could to get her to like me, but she blocked every single one of my advances with well executed quips and clever throwbacks. She had me on my toes, definitely. I was off my game, out of my comfort zone. If she were any other girl, I wouldn’t have wasted my time. All this stress and frustration I felt wouldn’t have been worth all the trouble. But she was.. well.. her. And I couldn’t resist her no matter how hard I tried. Anger issues and lack of patience be damned, this girl had roped me in so good I don’t think I’ll ever be able to break free and escape.

And quite frankly, I don’t think I even want to.

“Hey.. that looks good..” I told her the following morning before the start of homeroom, when she walked into the classroom and plopped down on her seat with a huge plastic cup filled with my favorite banana smoothie in her hand. “Can I have a taste?”

    “No.”

    “Aw, c’mon.. just one sip?”

    “You’re rich, buy your own.”

“But I have to walk all the way to the cafeteria to get one of those drinks..”

“I know, and after going through all the trouble of walking there myself, I’m not gonna allow you to finish my hard earned smoothie in one gulp.” She playfully sticks her tongue out before proceeding to intentionally make my mouth water by taking long sips from her drink. This girl had a mean streak, but like hell I didn’t care. That’s one of the many things I like about her.

    “Oh c’mon, I won’t do that.”

    “Yes you will.”
