Labyrinth of Emotions – 02.13 ~ Standing
Marina went over the paper work for the Planet, seeing the payment plan for her to buy Kit out of 25 percent. She rubbed her eyes, watching Jenny swimming laps in the pool of the home she and Fran once shared. It was a minor miracle that she owned the house, a bit of blackmailing on Marina‘s part.
Jenny emerged from the pool naked and dripping wet. Marina stopped staring at her and thinking that she was, perhaps really in love with the woman that had just stepped out onto the deck. She rubbed her lips with her hands, and saw that they were shaking.
Marina had always been the hunter, the one to go after just what she wanted, and like a hunter, she got bored after she had gotten her prey. Always in search for the next face, and now she was going to settle down? Marina went over to the table, sitting down and watching Jenny put a robe on and sat down on the chair.

Tim was standing at the grill, having fired up the charcoal a few moments before. Vanessa was on the house and he heard her coming outside, but he didn’t turn around. His girlfriend had been in a foul mood all day today, and he wasn’t sure as to why.
“They are still up there it has been a week!” Vanessa said, starting up the grill and Tim had to laugh. That was what was up her ass, the fact that her sister was in bed with Bette Porter.
“You did say you wished she’d find someone….” Tim quipped and Vanessa slapped his ass extremely hard, and he winced but then grinned. Vanessa sighed loudly, and he put the foil wrapped potatoes on the grill, and Nessa gave him a glare.
“Look honey, your sister is a big girl. So is Bette for that matter, now you need to let go a little bit.” Tim offered his own brand of dyke advice and Nessa crossed her arms, sitting on the picnic table and staring at her husband to be.
“I know that. I’m just sure she is going to get hurt. What if Bette breaks up with her? She’ll be devastated.” Nessa said and Alex cleared her throat at the door, wearing a pair of boxers and a black wife beater, leaning on the door frame.
“Oh and I’ll be so shattered, cut it out lil sister, I’m fine, shall be and always will be.” Alex offered and Tim grinned and winked, making him look that much cuter Alex thought.
“See, I told you she’s fine. Alex do you want a steak?” Tim asked, acting like there was nothing out of the ordinary happening upstairs. Alex went to sit next to her now pouting sister, she threw an arm around her and kissed her cheek. Vanessa didn’t move, because it was not often that her sister initiated human contact and she wasn’t going to complain. She had to grin a bit at the touch of her sister.
“Sure Tim, if you wanna throw one on for Bette too.” Alex said, and Tim nodded yes, trying to not picture Bette with Tina, it was a difficult task actually. He’d always thought of them as the picture perfect couple. Rock steady and would never fail, but then again, that was how he’d pictured he and Jenny. Look where that naivety got him?
“She’s still here?” Nessa said in disbelief, Alex chuckled. She watched as her sister made a soft face of distaste. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Bette; it was that she wasn’t accustom to her sister having a life outside of her work.
“Yes, she is upstairs getting dressed as we speak…” Alex said, and Vanessa muttered.
“For the first time in a week I’m willing to bet…” She said in a whisper and Alex gave her a stiff look, but Tim stood laughing hardily at the sisters.
“Did someone say my name?” Bette asked looking stunning in Alex‘s jeans and a white wife beater. Tim tried not to stare but he did nonetheless, drawing a soft growl from his wife to be.
“Hey Bette, how are you doing?” Tim said, trying to keep the laughter out of his voice, and Bette winked at him, feeling very playful. She gave Alex a sultry stare and shrugged.
“Very well indeed, and you Tim, how is it hanging?” Nessa stood eyes narrowing as she got up and went to the kitchen to get another steak. Tim gave a quick look at Bette again, not sure if he’d just heard Bette Porter actually crack a joke or not.
“Is she in a bad mood?” Bette asked as Tim kept right on laughing, and Alex shrugged and reached down into the cooler and handed Bette a beer. She waved it off and bent to get a wine cooler instead.
“Sissy.” Alex said and Tim grabbed the beer from Alex‘s extended hand.
“I am not. I prefer this to that.” Bette stated simply and Nessa came back out, handing the steaks to Tim who grabbed her arm, pulling her into a kiss. Nessa had to smile, he was too handsome and perfect to not smile at, or be with.
“Ok, you two need to do one thing for me.” Nessa said, and she crossed her arms, Bette looked at Alex and Alex shrugged.
“Beats me.” Alex offered and Tim turned to look at Vanessa, who’s serious face was almost to much for him to take.
“All right, we can try.” Bette said, still unsure of herself and on how shaky the ground she was standing on was.
“Please, please for the love of god tone it down? I mean, it was 4am last night! Don’t you two ever quit? Some of us have to sleep you know?!”

Jenny swam, she lost herself in the repetitive motion of touching the wall, turning, swimming across the pool, and back again. She thought about Gene, Robin and then Marina. She finally felt her body bulking at her, and she swam to the edge. She boosted herself up and slid into the robe that Marina had laid out for her. She lay down on the chair, closing her eyes and thinking some more.
Is this what she’d messed up her life for? For a pool and Marina‘s a cool eye watching her through the glass? Always wondering if she’d be looking at someone else? Would they have the same sort of relationship as she and Francesca‘d had? Jenny‘s thought floated around in her head. She wasn’t liking the direction they were taking.
Jenny then thought about Carmen, she and Jenny needed to talk. She wondered just what Carmen was going to say when she told her what happened. She did have to tell her, she had vowed to be honest. What was the worst that would happened?

Kit and Ivan were sitting quietly in a restaurant, Ivan being the total gentleman that he was. Kit looked up, and there was Melvin sitting at a table not five feet away. She turned away, shielding her eyes from the sight of him.
“Sweetie what is wrong?” Ivan said in a smooth soothing voice. Kit took a long haggard breath.
“My father is here.” Kit said with distaste in her voice, and just then Melvin spotted her and Kit simply nodded in his direction.
“Invite him over.” Ivan offered and Kit shook her head vigorously back and forth.
“No.” Ivan stood, smiling at Kit and moving over to Melvin‘s table. Kit watched as Ivan, not dressed in drag offer a silken hand to Melvin, he took it with trepidation. Kit moaned as Melvin stood, with a smile. Kit‘s face was a mask of confusion.
“Hello Kit.” Melvin said, as Ivan pulled out the chair for Kit‘s father,
“Thank you; Ivan you said your name is?” Melvin asked, very formal and Ivan nodded yes. Melvin looked over at Kit and smiled a bit.
“How have you been Kit? Is business treating you well?” Kit stammered, she scratched her head and muttered.
“Yeah, it’s been good. Better than good, I’m getting the hang of it, that class you set me up with was great by the way.” Kit looked at the menu and Ivan turned it over for her, because it was upside down.
“Why is it that your ‘friend’ had to invite me over, and not you Kit?” Melvin asked out of the blue and Kit was stunned at the frankness.
“Um…”
“She was going to Sir, but I thought that if I went over, it would be a nice, friendly gesture and you’d take an instant liking to me.” Ivan offered and Melvin tossed his head back, laughing hard.
“You’ve found a comedian for a friend Kit.” Melvin said, and Kit‘s eyebrows shot up. Ivan engaged Melvin in some banter about cars, which Melvin seemed to have an affinity for. Kit had no idea that Melvin loved old classic cars, then they talked about music. Ivan pulling Kit into the conversation just as the food arrived.
“You have always had wonderful taste in music Kit, from birth if I remember correctly.” Melvin stated and Kit choked on the piece of potato that she had just scooped into her mouth.
“Huh?”
“Huh? That is what you have to say to a compliment? You have always had a wonderful way of choosing one song after another that congratulate each other. I recall the first time you DJ’d for a party your mother and I were having. You were nine years old and you had the whole house on their toes. I remember that day often, and with fondness.” He said and Kit dropped her fork, and Ivan picked it up and handed it to her, smiling.
“You remember that day? I hadn’t thought about that day in years Melvin. I…” Kit stammered and Melvin cut another piece of his steak and shrugged.
“Well I do Kit. I do have warm memories of you.” Kit batted her eyes and a small smile graced her lips as she thought about her father having good thoughts about her.
