    Labyrinth of Emotions – 02.27 ~*~ Death’s Welcoming Glare

Alexandria Pezinni roared though the streets, her hair whipping back, and her eyes covered with a pair of faintly tinted sunglasses. It was getting darker, the failing light making it harder to see, but right now, she didn’t need to see, she just had to feel. The wind in her hair, the cool air on her skin, she just needed to be clear of all thought.

She revved the bike, running a red light, tires screeched behind her as she barreled into the hospital parking lot, a cab leaving as she entered the parking garage. She got off the bike, the sleek black bike resting on the kick stand as she turned and went into the hospital, flashing her badge at the security officer.

She headed to the nurses station and asked for Jayden Masters. The nurse looked at the computer, and saw that Jayden had punched out earlier. She pointed to the computer screen.

“I’m sorry detective, she’s gone, her name is on the board but she’d not here. Sorry, can I get you to leave a message?” The nurse, whose name was
    Rachel asked.

“No thanks.” Alex said and then she saw Bette walking to the vending machines, a silly grin plastered on her face. Alex wondered what she was doing here, she sauntered up to her. Alex smiled slipping behind her and tugging her close.

“I see that all is good in the world? Why are you here and why are you smiling like you swallowed the canary?” Alex asked and Bette spun around hugging Alex, kissing her forehead.

“Rosita got sick, a long story. Tina and I are….” She said, then smiling again, and Alex beamed, at least there was one thing that was right thing that had happened. There were no words needed, the silent understanding between them evident.

“Good. Excellent, but now I need to find a real girlfriend, damn it.” Alex grinned and Bette put an easy arm around her,

“Come and visit, Tina is upstairs and so is Ro’s father, he’s a total hoot. I haven’t laughed like that in ages.” Bette said and Alex shook her head, and said in a soft voice.

“I can’t, I have to find someone.” Alex stated and Bette laughed, walking her towards the elevator.

“I think you can go another day without a girlfriend? Please?” Bette pleaded and Alex bit her lip, tugging on the leather jacket and nodded. She had time, right?

“Ok, ok. Twist my arm why don’t you?” Alex followed Bette, and she nodded to another nurse, who turned and checked out Alex. Bette grinned, putting an easy arm around Alex again.

“You have an admirer.” Bette said with a giggle and Alex turned, walking backwards and smiling impishly.

“I see.” They walked into the room to find Tina roaring in laughter, and Ro was shaking her head. She kept waving and covering her face not wanting him to talk any more.

“Papi, enough about me and my mishaps as a kid, look at what the cat drug in.” Ro said, nodding at Alex, who thought she looked well for someone in a hospital bed.

“I never looked that good when I was wired with a feeding tube and IV’s.” Alex quipped and Bette tussled her hair, and Alex introduced herself to Ro’s father. He shook her hand and Alex smiled easily.

“Ah the atractivo detective?” He asked Rosita and she slapped his hand in warning and Alex‘s eyebrows shot up, and she cleared her throat.

“Ahora usted piensa I’m atractivo?” Alex said in perfect Spanish and Rosita’s face dropped and she groaned at her father, her gaze intense enough to make him look away, blushing and hiding his laughter behind a hand.

“Solamente en su detective del sueo.” Rosita shot back and Alex grinned, sitting down and Bette handed her some food.

“It’s cold, but I heard your stomach groaning when we were in the elevator.” Bette said and Tina asked in an annoyed voice.

“What did they say?” Tina demanded from Bette, who shrugged.

“I don’t know that much Spanish.  They talk to damn fast.” Bette said and Tina threw up her hands, and Rosita laughed. Ro stared at Alex, who seemed tense and filled with a certain sexual presence for some reason tonight.

“Alex asked me if I found her sexy, and I told her only in her sleep.” Ro cleared her throat and Alex pushed another spoonful of food into her mouth, chewing and chuckling.

“She’s never seen me sleep, I snore.” Alex said and Bette nodded.

“I can attest to that.” Bette said raising her hand and sending them all into more laughter.
