    Chapter 41

Bette stood in her office, absentmindedly trailing her finger across the desk pad.

It was a rare occurrence for her to be at work and for her mind to be full of everything but work.

Her mind wasn’t in her office, her mind wasn’t on ‘the job’ at hand.

There was a pile of correspondence, a pile of messages left from her absence, most of which James had dealt with, but some that needed her direct attention.

But her current state of mind was something different entirely.

She sighed and got up from her chair, walking to the glass wall of her office. Thankful that the redesign of her office had allowed her unlimited requests and this was one thing that was on the top of her list, a glass wall to allow her to sit at her desk and look down upon the main gallery.

She stood against at the wall, leaning her shoulder against the heavy plate glass.

She was feeling a combination of tumultuous emotions.

Her life following Lily’s demise was moving on.

    And Tina…

Tina had made that moving on process a journey that had been, she was sure, easier than she had anticipated.

The pain was still there, the loss was still there, the grieving was still there.  But there the process of accepting the loss was creeping in.

She had accepted that Lily was gone.

She had accepted that Lily wanted her to have ‘everything’ that she had left behind.

She had accepted that she would, without a shadow of a doubt, not allow Lily’s memory to be lost into the abyss of ‘gone’.  Lily would go on, not only in her life, but in others too.

But for Bette, the loss of Lily had also meant that the legacy that she had left behind was that of allowing Bette to open her heart and to let someone in.

Lily had allowed her to recognise that she wanted and needed to let go of the past that haunted her and to move on with her life.  Move on in her life with the woman that had intrinsically changed her whole outlook on the future.

    1. Jo…this is an awesome story…I look forward to each and every post and chapter you write…I admire the way you truly paint pictures with words…thanks for sharing your amazing talent with us.

    2. Betti-Ful! :-) Heya Mate, as usual you have pulled out the love and passion between these two wonderful gals. You are the best! Hey, I can attest to going BEYOND “40” in chapters can be a good thing…course, nothing good lasts forever, so I certainly know you will know when the fic has reached it’s climax. I’d much rather see a story end where it should while it’s at the top of it’s game so to speak, than go on forever if it ends up losing substance. As a brilliant writer, no doubt you will bring us wonderful chapters. Thanks! xo

    3. I’ll gladly accompany you in unknown territory as you say, it only takes on step at the time. I promise to hold your hand, figuratively speaking, by reading every chapter and supporting you always. As far as you want to go. Thank you for posting.

    4. Great chapter, Bette and James are so mischievius. I love the idea of Lily’s pieces being shown. It will be a good way for Bette to put some of her grief to rest. PPS

    5. Oh Jo…what a pleasant surprise today! You mix the comedy so well with the description of the sensuality that Bette was feeling. Beautiful story and looking forward to your next post.

    6. Hey Jo, chapter 40,50,60 whatever they just keep getting better and better anyway so you go as far as you want and for sure I’ll follow. Thank you for the new song, don’t really know if it’s new or not but it is for me. Thank you, Md aka Oma

    7. Oh I’m first… I think I’m still fist!! The website was playing with me mate, but now I have read it and I’m all happy! I loved it… but that’s nothing new, I always love your updates. You have an amazing way of writing Bette, bravo! Oh and thank god for “work from home” days!

    8. Hello Jo, Great to have finally caught up with all the wonderful writing. You are a class act and this is a marvelous melodrama. The action and emotion are brilliantly balanced as Bette and Tina deal with some of life’s great hard times. Losing a surrogate parent is a terrible thing. Good to watch how Tina is supporting Bette through. Bette was there when Tina lets her in and ready to be the loving girlfriend that she can be. I loved the lightest and playfulness of this chapter. Bette and Tina’s gentle teasing of each other is a real delight. James was a great sport.Thank you for putting a big smile on my face this morning. Your Loyal Fan.

    9. Hi Jo! *waving with enthusiasm* Ah, it’s so kind of you to give us an update of our fav story, which is close to our hearts. Describing all the emotions of having lost someone so especial and meaningful in our lives is always difficult, but you have unveiled and detailed them brilliantly. Furthermore, it is very important to have someone near by to comfort our soul and help us to move on. In this case, Bette has been lucky to have Tina by her side. It seems Bette is finally understanding that Lilly knew about the uniqueness of their love. An exhibit of all the magnificent pieces that Lilly crafted is the best tribute Bette can give. Perhaps, this is the best way for Bette to be at peace with herself and to move on with the love of her life. Lilly would have liked that. Thanks Jo, for continuing this beautiful tale of yours. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks. – Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)

    10. Awwwwwwww Jo, no matter how long it is between your posts, it is as though you just completed a chapter the day before so memorable is your writing. You have such a way with words and your stories. You attention to dialogue between the characters and your attention to detail of them is beyond awesome. YOu make the reader a part of the scene and story and that is why it is so easy to remember and read your story. Thank you for being such an awesome writer. I always enjoy your stories and hate to see them end. Thanks for posting. Post when you can.
