    “Lamenting”–a script for Season 2 episode 1, part 1

(Oscar enters the room, looks around, sees Candace and approaches her)

    Oscar:

    Good morning. How’s it coming?

    Candace:

Really well. I know that it looks rough at the moment, but we’ve ripped out all of those nasty cabinets and all of the rotted drywall from that leak in the roof, which is being patched as we speak (hammering heard from above). Oh, (reaching into back pocket and pulling out a business card) Tina said that you guys were also in need of a plumber. My friend Rene owns Savoie’s Plumbing and she said that she’d be happy to come by and give you an estimate on the job. And she also promised me she’d give you one ***** of a deal.

    Oscar:

Wow, Candace, thank you. We really appreciate all of this. It’s a good thing Bette found you.

    (Candace gives an uncomfortable smile)

    Oscar:

Oh, have you seen Tina by any chance?

    Candace:

    No, not yet.

    Oscar:

    (looks at watch)

We’ve got an appointment at 9 a.m. She’s usually here before me.

(Oscar pulls out his cell phone and dials)

    Oscar:

Hi, Bette? (Candace raises an eyebrow) This is Oscar. I’m sorry to call you at home, but is Tina still there? Oh…well do you know when she left? Oh…well, thank you. Sorry to have bothered you. Goodbye. (puts phone back in pocket) Jesus, is that woman ever happy?

    Candace:

    Tina wasn’t there?

    Oscar:

Nope. (with a mischievous smirk) And it sounded like someone’s in the dog house.

Scene 5: Alice’s apartment, later that morning

(Alice is seated on sofa, rolling a joint)

(Pan over to closed bathroom door…hear flushing, then running water, then Tina emerges)

    Alice:

     Still coming up?

    Tina:

    It’s just bile now.

    Alice:

    Well, this should help.

    (holds up the joint)

    Tina:

    Oh, thank God.

(Tina lights it, takes a huge hit, holds it for a second, then blows it out and starts coughing)

    Tina:

Whew! It’s been a while. Bette would only smoke when we were on vacation…

    Alice:

    Want a shotgun?

(Tina nods yes and turns her face to Alice, their lips almost touching, and Alice blows her a shotgun)

(Tina leans back heavily into sofa and Alice joins her)

    Tina:

You know, this is the first time in seven years that I have gotten stoned with just you instead of you and a new girl or a new boy or a throng of your magazine people.
