Bette hesitated, glancing at her ringing mobile phone.
Tina looked at her patiently. "It’s not going to answer itself, you know."
"I wanted to…" Bette dropped the incoming call with a press of a button. "I was hoping we’d get to talk first."
Tina smiled weakly. "Helena said that if it’s Alice you should tell her off, and leave it at that. Otherwise… You’re still gonna have to take that call."
Bette noticed how Tina successfully avoided saying Jodi’s name this time around. She smiled weakly. "Tempting, but it never ends with our reporter."
Tina shook her head. "Your reporter. She doesn’t want to be my friend anymore, remember?"
"T—" Bette was once again cut off by her phone. She glanced helplessly at Tina, then after checking the caller ID, answered the phone. "Alice."
"Why is Angelica with Helena?" Alice demanded in a voluble manner, letting even Tina hear her question. "Where the fuck are you?"
"Alice." Bette sighed. "It’s nice to hear your voice."
"Oh, no, no, Bette Porter, you are not going to fool me with your flattery." Alice snapped. "Jodi was just here, looking for you. You know you two had a standing lunch date."
"Something came up," Bette said simply.
"I’m sure." Alice retorted. "She threw a bitchfit, Bette. When she realized you really weren’t answering her calls, she threw a fit not seen since—"
"You dumped a box of sex toys on Dana?"
"Fuck you, Bette. I’m looking out for you here." Alice retorted.
Bette sighed, conceding that levity and humor had no place in this particular conversation.
"Plus, she told me you’re in fucking North Carolina. And I’m pretty sure I’m gonna take Phyllis’s word over James’s when she tells me you’re not there to woo some artist into moving to California."
Fuck, she’d forgotten Alice didn’t just have to rely on James on Bette’s whereabouts for work. "So you already know where I am."
"You’re with her?" Alice screeched. "Has the past year or so not taught you anything, Bette? No, really, I’d like to know: have you fucking lost your fucking mind, Bette? What the hell are you doing—"
Bette took a deep breath. "You’re clearly not in any condition to talk, Alice. I’ll call you later."

Loved the update…. Alice is a blast!
So is it possible that jodi will no longer be the girlfriend of Bette Porter? Alice must always have her nose in everybody’s life. I know that she is protecting Bette, but maybe she needs to protect Bette from jodi.
I just have one thing for Jodi…Na.na.na.na…Na.na.na.na…hey.hey.hey…good bye! Tiff with that one little word “had” you made my day! Wonderful dialogue with Alice…great quipping back and forth!

Though you had my eyes widen at Bette’s use of “had,” I’m not gonna jump for joy just yet, because I did recall this little bit in the last chapter – “”Just trust me.” Bette said, already in the process of blocking out memories of a more recent camping trip with her girlfriend and said girlfriend’s friends.” However I will hope that Jodi is if not already, then very soon will be out of the picture!! Great update & PPVS :)
Alice, Alice, Alice….pipe down and mind your own business for once. You know deep down Bette is exactly where she needs and should be…with the love of her life. Now they just have to figure out how to put it back together again. Bye bye Jodi. :) PPS
I do love the fact that Bette said “HAD.” Oh wow, that means they had broken up before Bette left town. Yea!!!!!! Good riddance to jodi, Bette does not need her in her life. She is so wrong for Bette. Let the aliens take her off somewhere, never to be heard from again. Tina and Bette love and need each other so much along with their baby. I only wish Tina had heard all of that conversation. That might give her a little hope. Maybe Alice will pick up on what Bette said. Alice should know there is no need to defend jodi as she is defenseless and brought it on herself. YES!!! Thanks for posting.

The worst thing about Alice is that you can’t hide anything… and it’s also the best thing. Just as well Bette let Tina walk ahead out of earshot, though. The use of that three-letter-word might have set up a conversation they’re not ready to have… or are they? Thanks for the post, tiff. :)
Hello TD, I am back and ready to post my comments on this awesome adventure. WHy do I get a sense that Bette is not being completely honest with Tina about her relationship with Jodi. Bette seems to be suggesting that it is done and dusted. Does Jodi know this or is she stupidly ignoring the reality and pretending that they are still a couple. Alternativelyl has Bette really finished it with Jodi. It could be that in her head, Bette has made this decision but avoided saying it out loud with Jodi. Bette is being very supportive of Tina during this tough time. Having lost her parents without ever being truly accepted for who she is, is a sore spot on Bette’s psyche. Perhaps by getting Tina to talk to her Mom and come to terms with the fallout might be a redemptive process for Bette. It looks like Tina’s Dad is able to be honest with his child and accept her for who she is. I just can’t wait to see how this all plays out. More please. many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.

Wow, Bette is speaking of her relationship with Jodi in the past tense…it sounds like she’s been doing some thinking during her time with Tina. It’s definitely a step in the right direction! I hope she breaks it off with Jodi before anything develops between Tina and her.
