Life and Love and Why – 27

Tina leaned back against the back wall of the elevator, closing her eyes and simply waited for the familiar sound that would indicate their arrival to their designated floor. Beside her, she could imagine Ned watching the numbers change intently.

They had stayed around a little longer at the house — she, Ned, and Paul — finishing their dessert, before doing the dishes when they realized neither Cathy nor their mother would be emerging from their rooms. They’d said goodbye to their mother through a closed bedroom door, acknowledged only with a "good night". They’d driven Paul home, then headed straight for the hotel.

    Ding.

Tina opened her eyes, and left the elevator, absently opening her purse and retrieving her hotel key.

    "Breakfast tomorrow?" Ned asked.

"I think I’ll have a late start," Tina admitted.

"Works," Ned shrugged. "Paul said Mom’s going to go see Dad early, then late afternoon."

"Okay," Tina ran a hand through her hair. She paused, then turned to him. "Thanks for being here, Ned."

    Ned gave her a nod.

Tina unlocked the door to her room with a sigh, and after giving a faint smile to her brother, who occupied the room beside hers, she went inside.

Bette looked up, but it wasn’t so much Bette’s presence that caught Tina off-guard, but that of their daughter, who was happily yammering on about something. Angelica followed her mother’s gaze towards the door, and her face broke into a wide smile at the sight of Tina. "Momma T!"

Tina took the few steps to where her daughter was, and picked her up, pulling her into a tight embrace. "Baby."

Bette watched as mother and daughter enjoyed their reunion, both of them obviously thrilled to be together. She caught Tina’s gaze over their daughter’s head. She stood up. "Helena flew her in tonight. She brought her over, but had to go to New York. She said she’ll be back."

"I should call her," Tina said softly.

    Bette nodded. "Are you OK?"

"Better now," Tina admitted, sitting on the bed, still holding Angelica. "Things kind of escalated when you left."

"It was already pretty heated when I left," Bette noted. "So an escalation can’t be good."

"You have no idea," Tina tightened her hold on Angelica, who returned the hug, seeming to understand the comfort and reassurance that was being requested, and offered, in the hug.

    1. I love Angie so very much… She’s just the ultimate cutie. And I like Tina’s self-awareness here. She’s being honest with herself that she knew she was going to bring up the low blow (cruel, T. Your partner cheated too). I’m intrigued by it all, though. Tina, Bette, Cathy, Clarissa… They’re all interesting, as always with you, tiff. PPVS! Thank you!

    2. Can I just say Tiff, that you are doing a gret job avoiding my biggest question (and hopefully others are wondering this too): since B&T are sharing a bed, do they end up cuddling by the morning or do they stay on their separate sides??? LOL I’m guessing there is contact during the night..hugs

    3. It’s a date…c’mon…11pm at nite…it’s a date. :) Love the 3 Ned reasons for Cathy having something up her a–. Funny! So…what happens after midnight? Mwah-hah-hah!

    4. OMG Tiff, you really are good! That chapter was primo from beginning to end. I really didn’t think that Tina did have her say at the dinner to either her Mother or sister. I hope there more dialog coming, it would be nice to see Tina’s strength, especially since they have all never really had this out, they just never got in touch with Tina again or visa versa. Can’t wait for the next chapter…PPS!

    5. I will always love the way you write the Kennard-Porter or is Porter-Kennard family. It is the way that portray Bette, Tina and Angie as real people with real emotions. Thanks for the update.

    6. Hmm…When I’m reading your updates, I find myself on the edge of my seat, carefully reading every single word. Just so I don’t miss a thing. Awesome chapter as usual…Thanks!

    7. The dialogue is so, so perfect as if you’ve had this yourself? Or one that your familiar with? Whatever….you have a good ear for the characters and what and how they would say it. PPVS.

    8. Yes, Angie will be breaking hearts…. Bette a pie run does not constitute a date. Tin needs to gather her bearings to handle Cathy the bitch. Will B&T introduce Angie to her grandparents or at least her grandpapa?

    9. Late night pie run? Almost seems like an impromptu date to me, but it can be glossed over as a “family outing” instead. Maybe the fun of it will provide a bit of distraction to the events of that disastrous dinner, til Tina’s ready to discuss what went down with Bette. Now that Angie’s in town, ready to break hearts, will Clarissa start thawing a little? Nice update. Thanks, tiff! :)

    10. That was a great update. I’m so ready to find out what Cathy’s problem is! I agree with Bette that the pie run will be considered a date some time down the line. I think Angie will be the one to melt Cathy’s cold heart. PPS

    11. Hmm, I’m thinking Tina needs to come clean with Cathy about some of the tribulations with her relationship with Bette and knock some chips off Cathy’s shoulder. Yay pie!

    12. brilliant, Tibetelica is reunited and angie is going to break everyone’s hearts…hopefully she’ll bring Tina and her mother closer…thanks for the update, loved it as usual

    13. YOu certainly know how to put a smile on my face in the morning, Tiff. Great chapter. I’m not so sure if Tina telling Cathy about her relationship problems with Bette will help, I get the feeling that all Tina will get in return is “I told you so”. I believe B&T’s relationship issues need to be kept out of the equation..maybe someday but not any time soon in my books. “Pie Run” and “When we talk about this later, it will be a date” – so cute!

    14. Thanks for the update. I love Bette’s comment about her kid breaking Ned’s heart…so cute. I think Tina is going to have to be in hyper protective mode with Angie around her family. I don’t know if she’ll want to expose her to her mother’s and sister’s hostility.

    15. Tiff, I have no idea if I’ve commented before as I’m generally remiss in giving feedback I’ll assume I haven’t and take this time to tell you this is an amazing story! I’ve enjoyed every word of it and can’t wait to see how Angelica’s presence in the TiBette camp shifts the balance of wills. Thank you! SK/C
