C.J. whistled softly as she ironed her clothes. A week a whole week since the death of poor Bette Porter. Such a tragedy it was. To die so young and to leave a wife with a child how truly sad.

C.J. smiled and listened to the soft breathing of Alex Pezinni in her bed. The detective was rather good. For someone who was acting that was. She was onto them. Oh yes, onto them and they would all pay, each and every single one of them.

Jo threw the report on the desk, and Lara looked up at her with wide eyes. Jo looked like hell; her eyes weren’t just blood shot they were red through and through. Her face held a worried look. Jo sat down, her wedding ring no longer on her finger and Lara‘s eyes registered some surprise. Jo looked down at her hand.

“A long story.” Jo said and Lara nodded. Knowing it was a long story, she’d spent two hours on the phone with Amy Astin, the worried lover and wife to Jo Wheaton. The same Jo, who hadn’t called Amy, hadn’t spoken to the woman in over two weeks. Lara hadn’t known what to tell Amy, who was in Florida with her dying mother.

“What is this?” Lara asked softly.

“Bette‘s autopsy report. We’re waiting on Alice and Alex.” Jo instructed her voice huskier than normal.

“We are dwindling in numbers.” Lara said sadly and Jo nodded, getting up and opening the door as Alex was about to knock. The detective’s hand was poised in mid air and she looked down sheepishly.

“You stink of her.” Jo said pulling her into the room and Pez messed up her short dark blonde hair, her hazel eyes staring Jo down. Who the fuck did Jo
    think she was?

“Fuck you. She’s not the killer. She loves her kid, and is a great woman and she isn’t killing anyone. A bit odd, but it’s not her.” Alex said and Alice walked just then, the door closing softly.

“What is going on? Did she kill Bette too?” Alice asked and Jo took the file, opening it and shoving it under Alex‘s nose. She pushed it into the woman’s chest, angry.

“Massive internal bleeding. She was hemorrhaging from every orifice of her body. Do you understand that DETECTIVE Pezinni? She literally bled OUT!” Jo blazed and Lara moved around the desk quickly, putting a hand on Jo who seemed very irate.

“I get it! I got it! She’s not the ONE! You’re off in the wrong fucking direction! Look somewhere else!” Alex stood up, and Jo kicked her fake leg out from under her, forcing her back into the chair.

“JO!” Alice yelled and Lara was stunned at how vicious Jo was being. She tried to move Jo, but she seemed glued to the ground.

“Someone fed her ground glass! I have a friend who’s a doc, her name is Darci Cyr and she opened Bette up after the M.E. was done. She’d never seen anything like this! There was damage to every fucking vital organ! GROUND GLASS! The fucking Soprano’s don’t do that shit! Do you get me?” Jo yelled, throwing the file at Alex and storming out of the room, elbowing passed Alice and almost tossing her to the floor.

“What was that about?” Alice asked and Alex looked at the papers, falling on the ground off her lap. She reached down, looking at the picture of Bette after she’d died at the hospital.

“You think she is right?” Alex asked softly, thinking she’d just slept with a killer if she was right.

“I think she was and is our best suspect.” Alice admitted reluctantly, and then thinking of what Jo had just said, ground glass how had it been done?

C.J was singing softly to herself as she worked.

“Steve walks warily down the street, with the brim pulled way down low. Ain’t no sound but the sound of his feet, machine guns ready to go. Are you ready, are you ready for this? Are you hanging on the edge of your seat. Out of the doorway the bullets rip to the sound of the beat.”
