Lifeline 2
The sun had begun its slow and steady drop behind the jagged mountains, casting an orange glow over the city of Los Angeles. Bette Porter had been waiting for this moment all day, when the darkness would come and she could leave the crowded bus station to find a new place to be, a place to get away to. By light of day anyone would have recognized her, but with the blackened sky and darkened streets no one would notice the beautiful dark eyes and curls that rolled over her delicate shoulders.
The carmel skinned woman headed to the bathroom, jumping back as she saw the disgusting creature reflected in the splintering, broken mirror. Her usually perky features were tired and drawn out, her usual neat appearance replaced with that of a lazy teenager. A dirty black t-shirt clung to her thin frame, faded jeans hanging low on slim hips. On her feet were worthless black flip flops; a long way from her expensive Jimmy Choo heels.
Women entered the bathroom, pushing past her as if she was just another stupid child in the way of their busy schedules. Two dirty fingers rose to her eyes, rubbing the lids wearily as she pushed strands of disheveled hair behind each ear. The two women behind her stifled laughs and locked themselves in their stalls. She heard the whispers, heard the insults, but nothing was new.
*****, Bette muttered, pushing out of the bathroom and back into the over populated station. She headed to the door, stepping out and turned down a few side streets before she found a busy street lined with taxis. She rummaged through her new generic purse, finding a small wad of cash and her credit card.
Nearly out of cash, and credit cards can be traced. Ill find an ATM in the next stop. Bette thought, hailing a cab and sliding into the leather interior. The smell of stale cigarettes and body odor overwhelmed her, and the window seemed to be permanently stuck shut. It would be a long cab ride, but long and worth it.
Somehow, being in this taxi brought tears to Bettes sore eyes. Everything in the god damn world reminded her somehow of Tina. Whether it was as simple as a flower, or as complex as a spot that reminded her of one of the many nights her and Tina had spent together, hand in hand. Once more, she found herself shifting through the numerous contents of her bag, pulling out a small orange prescription bottle. She shook the container, closing her eyes as the sound of green and yellow capped pills rolled against one another, sending vibrations through the bottle. The cap slid open, and Bette quickly downed the pill without the help of water. It went down slow and scratched at the back of her throat. She choked for a moment, urging the Cabbie to drive on towards absolutely nowhere.

The heartache and pain, that hurts. Two very stubborn hurt people Looking into the night for what, Just needing and wanting each other. thanks
I really am lovin’ this…hope ya’ll keep it up.
Wow this is so emotion and sad. Post soon.
the idea of bette sleeping on a sidewalk and walking around in filthy and dirty just calls for too much suspension of disbelief. I could see her throwing herself into her work, drinking too much, putting up a nearly insurmountable emotional wall, isolating herself from loved ones even, but not this.
Awesome story, I’m glad you two found time to update.
And why do I always get stuck doing this job. I feel like im moderating these comment rants.
Chantal, you might not be able to picture it, but if you try hard, and realize how defeated Bette is(She just got robbed for gods sake) you might understand why she’s sleeping on the ground.
I personally enjoy the way that each of them loves each other, but in a way they’re both afraid.
Continue please.
Well well you two are back. God damn you are good. This story is comming along very well. Let´s have some more please. Post soon and keep up the god work
I apologize if my comments left anyone feeling the need to “moderate” them. They were not meant to be mean spirited. I honestly meant them as constructive criticism on the story premise and nothing more. I would never discourage anyone from expressing themselves or sharing their work with others.
Yeah I’m sorry, I flipped out a little bit. I write fanfiction on here and I see a lot of the critiscm and so I need to vent at some point. Sorry.
this is disturbing
