Ligeia’s Poet: Trainspotting Isn’t Good for One’s Health

Alice tried to speak the lines as well, having just watched the film, whilst stoned with Shane weeks previous, but she couldn’t get the accent down.

    Choose your future.

    Choose life.

But who would I want to do a thing like that?

All in all, Shane did a good job at remembering a rather long and rambling voice-over. Helena also commented on her Scottish accent—not bad…

“Where are we?” Shane had awoken in a haze of hot air and dust covered dreams.

Their week would start slowly. Helena gradually accepted one of Shane’s offered gifts, and while the commodified derivative was a sorry substitute for the real thing, the contradictions were lessons in themselves.

    One month later…

The alarm went off, but instead of an obnoxious bleeping, Nina Simone’s voice eased into the room, perhaps a bit chipper for the time of day, but welcome nonetheless.

Love me or leave me and let me be lonely
You won’t believe me but I love you only
I’d rather be lonely than happy with somebody else…

“Wake up sleepyhead…” Only a low moan greeted Bette’s words. “Are you nervous?” Bette waited, rubbing Helena’s back soothingly.  The pads of her fingers ran lightly over her girlfriend’s bare shoulders as she waited for her to say something.

“Yes.” Came the muffled reply. It was 6am, Helena’s usual time for climbing out of bed, but Bette knew that she had been awake for some time, avoiding the day. She had skipped her morning jog and let Nina Simone play on the clock radio for a few minutes longer, reminding her of her ever increasing anxiety.

“The café is opening today.” Bette grinned. She edged closer, moving the sheet away from between her and Helena’s bodies.  Helena lay with her back to her, so Bette curled around her, patting Helena’s naked butt.

“You’re sweaty.” Helena giggled. She wiggled backwards, inspiring a squeeze from the woman wrapped around her.  “Did you get enough sleep?”

“We only got to sleep a few hours ago.” Bette said with a sigh. “I have to go into the University today…” She let her arms cover Helena a bit longer, enjoying the few minutes they had to cuddle.

    1. Hello My Friend, I am not letting up on the fact that I think you are a complete genius when it comes to your magic with words. You have this uncanny ability to weave through your words incredible socially influential topics while never detracting from your poetic stories. Yes this is one of my favorites of yours but I love each and everyone of your stories. I love how you manage to move this story in and from beyond the page and move it into the third dimension… some of the lines literally feel like I am having a conversation with someone… and that is amazing… you are brilliant and I cannot wait for what your brilliant soul will weave… but take the time you need to focus on the more important things in your life. Sincerely, JC

    2. Hehe … hilarious chapter baby! .. sounds like things are moving forwards in all angles. lol … I’m snickering though and wondering why it’s Jenny the “little minion of evil” who has a mac, and Jenny who berates Alice for thinking *everyone* has subtext …. *wink* .. are you comparing me to the wicked witch of weho baby?

    3. I loved the AlShaLena, their friendship is so great! Should I be worried with Jenny’s line “Shane and Helena, me and Bette, you and…everyone…”?? hehe… Seriously I don’t agree with Alice, Mer and Christina are friends and Mer belongs to Derek =P heheh…. I’ve never seen Trainspotting but now I want to… I also hope everything goes well with your family member… thanks for posting =) I can’t wait to read the next one…

    4. Ah, Trainspotting. I’m almost as fond of that film as I am this story, and luckily, there’s a next post to be read. And subtext… there’s subtext everywhere!
