Ligeia’s Poet: Trainspotting Isn’t Good for One’s Health
Helena thought over some of her distributors again. There was another collective that had come to her attention, and though she hadn’t considered making anything with corn, a recipe could easily be whipped up—corn fritters with homemade salsa as a side for eggs and bison sausage. She steered easily through the now rain covered LA streets, humming to herself as she drove, preferring her own thoughts to the chatter of local radio.
Alice and Shane waited at Wax, standing under a now gloomy sky. Alice looked pissed about something.
“What on earth is wrong with you?” Helena asked her as she clamored into the backseat. Shane eased into the passenger side, a smirk on her face.
“She won’t stop singing this creepy song.” Alice whined. “Can I put the radio on?”
Before Helena could ask what song Shane insisted on tormenting Alice with (she had heard her humming something about a windmill) the radio blasted forth with Joan Jett.
“Oh shit, hey, Helena, we have to pick Jenny up!” Shane shouted above the music. She laughed hysterically as Alice let loose with a string of swears.
“You two are like children.” Helena sighed. Shane asked what she said but she only smiled and shook her head. “All right. Where is she?”
The little minion of evil was on the sidewalk outside of The Planet. With her Mac perched precariously on her knees, she typed furiously. “Hello.” She said politely as a shadow crossed in front of her.
“Car’s running.” Helena replied. She smiled down at the weird one. Unlike the others, she really had never had a reason to hate Jenny. She and Shane were the only ones who seemed to get along with the writer no matter what she pulled on them. “Would you like to come with us now?”
“What are we doing?” Jenny looked intently at Helena’s feet and typed something else.
“Uhhh…” Helena looked down. She saw ants. One tried to climb her boot but decided against it and moved down again. “We’re getting some…furniture…Jenny, what on earth?”
“Ants.” Jenny muttered. “We’re all ants, Helena Peabody. Let’s go get some furniture.” She snapped the Mac closed and allowed the taller woman to help her to her feet.

Hello My Friend, I am not letting up on the fact that I think you are a complete genius when it comes to your magic with words. You have this uncanny ability to weave through your words incredible socially influential topics while never detracting from your poetic stories. Yes this is one of my favorites of yours but I love each and everyone of your stories. I love how you manage to move this story in and from beyond the page and move it into the third dimension… some of the lines literally feel like I am having a conversation with someone… and that is amazing… you are brilliant and I cannot wait for what your brilliant soul will weave… but take the time you need to focus on the more important things in your life. Sincerely, JC
You know…Meredith and Christina really do belong together.
You know I could actually imagine them acting that way. And I love it. I hope everything gets better with your family member.
Hehe … hilarious chapter baby! .. sounds like things are moving forwards in all angles. lol … I’m snickering though and wondering why it’s Jenny the “little minion of evil” who has a mac, and Jenny who berates Alice for thinking *everyone* has subtext …. *wink* .. are you comparing me to the wicked witch of weho baby?
I loved the AlShaLena, their friendship is so great! Should I be worried with Jenny’s line “Shane and Helena, me and Bette, you and…everyone…”?? hehe… Seriously I don’t agree with Alice, Mer and Christina are friends and Mer belongs to Derek =P heheh…. I’ve never seen Trainspotting but now I want to… I also hope everything goes well with your family member… thanks for posting =) I can’t wait to read the next one…
Ah, Trainspotting. I’m almost as fond of that film as I am this story, and luckily, there’s a next post to be read. And subtext… there’s subtext everywhere!
