Like Looking Into a Mirror: Ch.4 the other side of the glass
Shane had never just sobbed in front of anyone, let alone cry. Except once with Cherie. God, I was beginning to forget and then Clea just had to show up here. It was so strange, Shane wasnt angry with Clea. Of course, Clea definitely needed some counseling, yoga or stop drinking coffee, something like that. Shane thought to herself. Cheries words continued to dig and saw into her flesh. Thinking about it brought more tears. Shane nuzzled her face against Andies thighs, hiding her face. She could feel one of Andies hands stroking the chunky pieces of her hair on the back of her head. It was comforting, calming and almostrefreshing. Andie continued to cradle Shane. Every once in awhile she would bring her hand up to push back her hair, but would quickly return her hand to Shanes back. After a few minutes Shanes sobs quieted and soon stopped, but she kept her face hidden from Andie. Andie smiled knowing Shane had let a lot of things go by crying. Shane lifted herself off of Andie and turned her face to wipe her eyes. The she finally looked at the woman beside her. Her hair was in a messy bun with pieces falling out all over. One piece fell particularly over one of her gray eyes. Her eyelashes were perfectly full and long. She had a few freckles on her nose, the skin on her face looked so soft. Shane wanted to touch her cheeks, but didnt. Her gaze moved to her mouth. Her lower lip full and almost pouty, the lips looked like she had been eating strawberries all day. Andie wondered why Shane was just staring at her. Maybe shes just embarrassed about her wall coming down for a moment. Shanes eyes were pink and swollen, but also filled with sadness. Shane broke the gaze and looked down the alley as she scooted a little further away from Andie. She let out a long breath. Andie decided to speak up. Ill guess that you dont want to talk about it? she said quietly. Shane just looked forward, debating in her mind whether or not to talk about all of this. She turned and looked at Andie. What are you doing back here anyways? Shane asked. Andie knew that meant she wasnt going to talk about what happened. Well, I was at the Planet and Kit offered me a waitressing job there and I just got done working with her and Bette. While I was walking to my car, I saw that store over there. She pointed in the direction The midnight black guitar that looks like its fading and old. I want it soooo bad. Anyway, I saw your reflection in the window. When I saw that girl push you, I thought you might need help and then I heard everything else. Sorry, I should have just left it a lone. Andie said looking down. No! No! Thank you. Im the one who should be apologizing for the crying and keeping you from whatever you have planned. Shane talked fast. All I had planned was to move and let me tell you it will be a pain in the *****. A big bin full of past memories and two huge duffel bagsthats it. She smirked. Shane laughed as Andie stood up from the ground and dusted her butt and the back of her thighs off. You gonna be ok? Andie asked. Yeah, Ill be fine. Shane pulled herself up and wiped her face with her hands, Im totally fine. Andie smiled sadly, but nodded, she knew Shane wasnt fine. If you need to talk or anything. Give me a call, anytime, it doesnt matter. She smiled and waved slightly then started to walk to her car. She pulled out her car keys and unlocked the car door. Just as she was opening the door, Shane ran to the car, slightly out of breath. She pushed the car door shut before Andie could open it all the way. Wait. Shane said. Andie gave Shane a confused look, but she turned so she was facing Shane completely. What? Andie asked. I didnt get to tell you. About this morningwhen everyone was talking aboutaboutShane was searching for the right words. About the fat stuff? Andie finished for her. God. Yes, butI wanted to make sure you knew. I dont think that about you at all. I mean youre. Shanes words were coming out strained. Shane? I know. I was there for a lot of the conversation. I know what you said. I dont blame you. Ok? I dont even blame the other ladies. So no worries. Andie smiled. Shane nodded. Good. Yep, good. Andie started to open the door. But. Andie laughed and closed the car door and looked at Shane again. Why did you say you werent my type? Look, Shane. I said that because I didnt want you to feel like you would have to come up with some bull ***** reason to spare my feelings. Andie said. Oh. Shane stepped back. She wanted to say so much more to Andie. She looked into Andies eyes and felt like she slipping into them. Shane opened her mouth to say something Shane! Your five oclock is here. The salons receptionist called out. Shane sighed, GodSundays! Im one of the two stylists who work them. Shane was walking towards the salon while she talked. I see. Andie laughed, Ill see you around. As Shane turned around to say good-bye to Andie, a girl walked past her, but then stopped when she say Andie. She had natural red hair that fell straight down her back. The girl wore pinstriped slacks with suspenders and a dark green tank top. She short, but proportioned well. She looked at Andie as if she may know her. Oh my god. Arent you the singer from the band that played at Milk last night? Andie smiled, while Shane watched from the door of the salon. Ummm, yeah, Im with that band. You guys were great! The girl walked a bit closer to Andie. I loved a lot of your original music. Andie decided to get out of the street and stepped onto the sidewalk. Thanks. Im glad you liked the music. The girl laughed nervously and fidgeted with one of her suspenders. Shane could read that the girl was attracted to Andie. Shane are you coming? the receptionist asked. Please, tell her Ill be just a few more minutes. Shane mumbled. What the ***** am I feeling? Shane asked herself, crossing her arms over her chest. The red head was making the body language that screamed, ***** me! Andie was smiling and giving the girl eye contact and all of her attention. Shane stepped inside of the salons door, so she would be out of sight. Shane the receptionist. Yes, yes, hold on. Shane noticed how Andie flirted; she used eye contact and puppy dog eyes. But it wasnt just that it was how confident she presented herself. She stood tall with one hand resting on her curvy hip. Her facial expressions were strong, as if she knew that she could have the red head at any moment. Do you have a phone number that I can call you at to find out when your next show is? The red head asked in an enticing voice. Only to find out where the band is playing, huh? Andie teased. Well, maybe not just to find out when you play. Maybe just to talk, too? the girl was very shy. All right, Ill give it to you, but its a message phone. If you call give them the message and number and I will call you back. Ok? Andie grinned as the girl pulled out a pen. Shane was biting her lip as she watched and listened. She had ran back and got the receptionist to shampoo her client. Do you have a piece of paper? Andie asked. Shane rolled her eyes and said in a mocking high-pitched voice to herself, Of course I dont, silly, can you just write it on my cute little *****? No, I dont have any paper, just write it on my hand. The girl held out her hand. Andie took the hand and wrote on it. Her thumb caressed the top of the shy girls hand before handing her back the pen and letting go of her hand. The girl laughed softly. Whats your name? Andie asked, walking smoothly backwards to her car Angela. She followed Andie a little bit. Andie reached out and brushed her chin with her index finger. See you around, Angela. The girl almost giggled, Bye, Andie. As the girl walked away, Andie looked up to see if Shane was still there, but she was gone. Andie sighed and got into her car. ————————————————————————————————————– Shane pulled out a comb and began running her fingers through the customers hair. She began to comb the ends. Sorry, I had to take care of something. Thanks for being patient. Shane said quietly. Thats fine. Is everything ok? the woman asked. Yeah, everything is just the way it should be. Shane smiled sexily before combing the hair again.
