Scene 5
Location: Tina and Bette’s House.
Helena is ringing the doorbell but there is no answer. Bette’s car is in the driveway so Helena walks down the driveway to the back of house and sees Bette sitting by pool working on her computer. Bette doesn’t notice Helena approaching.
Helena is wearing one of her form fitting little black dresses. Bette is casually attired in a white tank top, yoga pants and flip-flops.
Helena: Hello Bette.
Bette: Hello Helena. [Startled and displeased.]
Helena: Is Tina home?
Bette: No she’s out with Angelica.
Helena: I really need to speak with her. Do you mind if I wait?
Bette: Yes, as a matter of fact, I do.
Helena: Look, it’s important, I don’t see why you can’t be reasonable.
Bette: Helena, when are you going to get the message that you can’t buy Tina’s affections? Tina and I are couple, we are raising our daughter as a family, why don’t you quit ***** with my life and leave us alone.
Helena: I’m not trying to buy Tina’s affections. I bought a movie studio and I need a Development Executive and it’s my understanding that Tina was quite a good one before she quit her job to play housewife for you. I’ve offered Tina a job, it just so happens it’s a well paying one because I need someone with her experience. It has nothing to do with the fact that I’ve heard your family could use the money.
Bette gets up out of her chair and is standing; she and Helena are now face to face.
Bette: No thanks to you.
Helena: I told you I had nothing to do with that.
Bette: Right.
Helena: Bette, Franklin wanted to fire you long before I came along or have you forgotten how my mother saved your ***** with Provocations. I don’t know how you charmed her, because she didn’t just save your job, as I recall, she got you a contract extension as well. Without her intervention on your behalf you would have been ousted over a year ago.
Nothing in your behavior towards me from the time I came to L.A. gave me any inclination to sway the board in another direction. It didn’t have to be that way. As far as I’m concerned you got yourself fired.
