    Living for Love: Chapter 8

Bette and Tina simultaneously said, ‘Yes’ and then giggled.

Bette said, ‘We already got the turkey from the "Dolly Parton Double D-Cup" ranch. Helena bought some jellied cranberry sauce. Shane and Jenny took care of the garlic herb dressing.’

Carmen added, ‘I fixed a green bean casserole with some dried onion chips on top. Angus and Kit are planning to bring some mandarin stuffed potatoes.’

Tina said, ‘We still need a salad and maybe some juice.’

Cherie said, ‘I’m bringing the juice. But the salad’s cool.’

Dana said, ‘I’ll take care of the salad and make sure it’s nutritionally safe and healthy.’

Carmen asked, ‘Are you sure you want to do that? I mean, you just got out.’

Dana said, ‘Believe me. I want to do this and have a regular life back.’

They knew how much Thanksgiving with her family meant to Dana so everybody agreed. All that was left was dessert and Jenny volunteered.

Jenny said, ‘I’ll take care of the apple and pumpkin pies. There’s a Wholly Farms that deals with gluten free bakery items so I’ll try them.’

Dana was touched by the sentiment Jenny showed in her selection and just by the overwhelming feeling of love at "The Planet". All the plans were set and there was nothing else to talk about. Tina went to her meeting after kissing Dana back. Shane and Cherie went for a walk to WAX. Sharon knew that Dana wanted to be with Alice so she asked if anybody needed a ride to their homes. They all accepted, except for Alice. She and Dana stayed at the table, across from each other, holding hands, and maintaining a constant eye lock. Dana made the first serve.

Dana asked, ‘You barely said anything for the whole evening. Isn’t there something on your mind?’

Alice kept a solid stare on Dana from the moment she entered the building. Still gazing into Dana’s eyes she tilted her head to the right, as though she was pondering the right answer. This was a moment for Alice and Dana and everybody knew it.

Alice said, ‘Wait’ before anybody could get out of "The Planet".

Alice and Dana got up from the table. They held hands and walked over to the jukebox to make a selection. They were going to dance to Britney Spears’ "Everytime" in front of everybody in "The Planet". In front of strangers, all the bystanders, their families, and in front of Dana’s conservative parents. Love was in the air and they were soaking it all up. Irwin and Sharon just watched with smiles as Dana was dancing with the woman she loved to "Once in a Lifetime" by Sarah Brightman. One song after another, they danced into the night and made way to their apartment.

Alice opened the door with both their eyes on each other. Dana put her hand on top of Alice’s and they turned the knob together. When they stepped into the hallway, Dana told Alice what was on her mind.

Dana whispered into Alice’s ear, ‘Please, can we just go to sleep together? I want this to be the longest night I spend with you.’

Alice smiled, put her hands on Dana’s cheeks, and said, ‘Yes.’

Dana said, ‘I don’t want us to ever be apart. I only want to be with you. I have known what love is, with you. I knew it when we first kissed. I knew it when we came out together. I knew it during Pride Week. And I knew it all through this year.’

No words could describe what they knew in their hearts to be true. Nothing could diminish this moment. But something had to be done.

    Alice said softly, ‘Don’t move.’

Alice walked to the stereo, picked out a song, and played it. Dana didn’t know what to make of this except to let nature take her course.

Alice said, ‘I want this night to last as long as it can and as long as we can’, and they started to dance to the Beach Boys’ "Forever". When the song was over, it replayed. Their bodies molded together with every play until they eased down on to the bed. They lied down in a hugging position and Dana wrapped her legs around Alice’s left leg. This was so that they’d still be together all through the night. They let the music keep on playing, looked into each other’s eyes, put their heads on their pillows, and quietly fell asleep.

Dana whispered, ‘Dear God, I Love You.’

Alice whispered, ‘I Love You, too.’
