    Loss, Life and Love 8

Bette awoke to the sound of her cell phone ringing. She looked at the clock, 4:30 a.m. She rubbed her eyes and answered her phone.

                “Hello?”

“Bette, it’s me I am sorry about tonight. I hope that you are not mad at me. I wanted to tell him. I just really don’t know how. You aren’t too mad at me, are you?” Tina asked.

“T, listen to me, all I want for you is to be happy. Apparently that was not with me, so I hope that it is with Henry. I suspect that it is better for us to just move on with our lives and stay friends. I don’t want to mess that up. I love you, T. I understand that the feelings aren’t mutual any longer. I accept that as well. So don’t trouble yourself. Go on and be happy.” Bette said.

“Bette, the feelings are mutual. I love you, too. I just can’t break Henry’s heart. He has been so good to me and so understanding. I would just feel horrible if I hurt him. I care about him a great deal. He is not the love of my life though. He doesn’t make me as excited as you did. He doesn’t bring me to the levels that your love did. I guess I am pretty confused, aren’t I?”

“Tina, you were confused the day we met. Perhaps we jumped in too fast. Maybe you were not sure about your sexuality back then. I might have pushed to hard too fast. Who knows the reasons, the fact remains you were not happy in our relationship. We had some rough years at the end. It does not mean that we don’t care about one another. It also doesnt mean that we aren’t in love with each other. It just means that one of us is not sure of her sexual preference and she needs to figure it out pretty fast because there is an innocent child at stake.” Bette told her.

“Bette, are you saying you don’t think I am a lesbian?”

“Tina, you went from being heterosexual, to a lesbian over night. That is not how it works. You never struggled with your sexuality as a child or teenager. You always assumed you were straight. You met me and assumed you were a lesbian. Maybe you are bi-sexual. Either way, it does not matter you just need to figure out what you want. You can’t have both of us.”

“Your words certainly hit close to home. Thank you, Bette. I am sorry if I spoiled your evening.”

“You didn’t. I had a nice time. I enjoyed showing you the gallery. I think I am going to head home and get a little sleep before Angelica arrives.”

“You are still at the gallery?”

“Yes, I just wanted sit and think for a while. I actually dozed off at some point and the cell phone woke me up. I should thank you, now I will be able to drive home. Good night Tina. Sweet dreams.”

                “Good night, Bette.”

Bette arrived home and noticed the lights on in her bedroom. “I thought I turned those off,” she said to herself.

    1. Tina’s reason is ridiculous. You can’t love everyone who loves you in return. You can hurt the love of your life because you can’t hurt someone loves you? So lame. Does she want Bette because she’s alpha again, because she’s the one every woman wants? Sexual orientation is meaningless when you truly love someone, especially after you have spent 8 years with the person. I don’t think Tina really knows Bette’s the love of her life at the moment. Bette shouldn’t take her back yet. Maybe just stay friends and see.

    2. yeah I thought that too, that tina can’t hurt Henry because he loves her but it was okay to rip Bette’s heart out? and continue to, with wanting a quickie on the conference room table. Note to Tina..Bette has feelings! Stop screwing with them! It probably is Tina in the bedroom, hope Bette says NO.

    3. oh…should I post the next chapter? I have it written. I was home from work all day and have had time to write…he he he…what should an author do???

    4. it was easy for tina to break bette”s heart and hurt her when she left her for henry…i guess maybe she doesn’t love her as much as bette loves her…i hope it’s not true and it’s tina in the bedroom with angie
