(Bette is startled from her thoughts by the doorbell. She gets up after putting her wine glass down. She recognizes the guest and opens the door.)
BETTE- “Hey there. You miss me already?”
SHANE- “Hi Bette. I’m sorry to come by unannounced.”
BETTE- “No, not at all. Come on in. I was just relaxing and having some wine.” (She guides her to couch and they both sit.) “Would you like a glass?”
SHANE- “Nah, I’m good thanks.”
BETTE- “So, what’s up?”
SHANE- “I wanted to ask you about someone in the art world.”
BETTE- (She smiles…) “An artist caught your fancy?”
SHANE- “Nah, nothing like that.”
BETTE- “Hm, ok…what’s the name?”
SHANE- “It’s an Evangeline. A Dr. Bran…I’m actually not sure about the name…”
BETTE- “Evangeline? You mean Dr. Bertrandeisen?”
SHANE- “Yeah, that’s her.”
BETTE- “Well, she’s a very accomplished woman. She’s from Europe. She’s older, maybe early fifties or late forties. She’s elegant and dynamic. Knows her stuff and doesn’t suffer fools gladly.”
SHANE- “Sounds like you in a few years!” (They chuckle.)
BETTE- “Why do you ask?”
SHANE- “A friend…well…do you know anything about her beyond that?”
BETTE- “I actually know her personally. I’ve worked with her, when I was younger, and now she’s working on a project that’s coming to LA. I actually just spoke to her recently. In fact, she’s likely going to visit.”
SHANE- “She’s not gay is she?”
BETTE- (Bette’s eyes search Shane’s for a moment…) “You know, I’m not sure. There’s always been speculation. She’s never been married, though she’s been seen with men. I actually…well…never mind…why do you ask?”
SHANE- “No no…tell me…I’m worried about a friend who’s really taken with her. I think this Evangeline is playing her or not being forthright.”
BETTE- “Oh. Well, she’s a good person but just sort of nutty. She’s a crazy professor type at times. When I was younger and first met her I actually had a crush on her…felt so drawn to her. She was really amazing, especially to my inexperienced eye at the time. But I’ve never known her to be intentionally mean…unless she’s on the offensive for some good reason…she’s a force to be reckoned with. Is your friend in Europe?”
SHANE- “No. So you would trust her to not take advantage of someone?”

Merlin this story is fantastic!! what are you talking about no one being interested and it heading towards a slow death??? there are so many great twists and connections that you got me riveted girl, please keep posting. Sorry I didn’t post sooner but I just caught up with my fanfics!! I’m sure there are plenty of folks who are looking forward to reading more so please post soon!!
Excellent…I am following but damn girl you’re puttin’ me to shame with the posts as close together as they are! I read one and then think of a comment and POOF another one is there. Not that I’m complaining mind you! I love it and I’m still on board even if there isn’t a comment on each chapter because you posted before I could get to it. Lesbian Patrol…I love Alice!

Your dialogue….amazing, magical. Totally sounds natural and just like the people speaking. Often imitated, never duplicated. PPS.
