Previously:

“Hey Bette.” Tina smiled at Bette.  She is glad to see Bette at her door.
“Hi Tina.”  She just comes in and takes a seat at Tina’s desk.

“Thanks for coming over again to help me I really appreciate it.” Tina says trying to get Bette to make eye contact.
“No problem, Tina.  I’ll help you any way I can.”
Not only does she not look directly at Tina, she is calling her Tina.

‘Damn I think she heard and she seems pissed. Fuck’

 They each try to concentrate on the literature in front of them while ignoring the pink elephant in the room.  Tina is not sure how to approach the subject.  On one hand she doesn’t owe Bette any explanations.  She and Bette have gotten a little closer since her party and she wants that to continue.  She isn’t sure what Bette wants.  Then there is her best friend Desi, she doesn’t want to hurt her either.  Though lately Desi has been acting as though she would be ok with it.  All of these thoughts are going through her mind, when she finally can’t take it any more.

“Bette are you ok?” Tina asks trying to look Bette directly in the eye again.

“Yeah why?” Bette answered too quickly.

“Come Bette.”

“Tina just let it go.”

“Let what go Bette?  I don’t even know what is going on.  It is obvious you are not quite yourself.  You keep giving me one word answers and you have barely made eye contact with me since you walked in.”

Bette looks down.  She knows Tina is right and she knows she is being an ass.  Her pride won’t allow her to tell her what she is feeling.

“Bette do you consider us to be friends?” Tina wanted to know.

“Yes I’d like to think we are.”

“So tell me what’s up with you and Helena?  I think you know that I was speaking to her when you came to the door.  I have been told by at least two very reliable people that you and Helena are enemies. Can you tell me why?”

“Tina I can’t stand her.  That is a story for another day.  I will tell you that she is very conniving and may be using you to piss me off.”
