TinaI don’t want just one night with you. I want a chance at something more. Now I think that we should turn in before I am tempted to kiss you again.”
Bette led Tina over to the bed and she leaned over and gently kissed her on the tip of her nose and said “Goodnight” before she turned and walked over to the sofa.
Tina: (crawling into bed while Bette tried to settle down on the sofa and reaching up to turn off the light, softly) “Goodnight Bette. Thank you for a wonderful evening.”
Bette: (turning and looking in the direction of the bed) “You’re welcome but I think the thank you should be mutual. Sweet dreams, baby.”
Tina lay there in bed thinking about everything that had happened to her that day and trying to go to sleep but sleep wouldn’t come. She lay there listening, as Bette tossed and turned over on the sofa.
Bette was tossing and turning on the sofa, not because she was uncomfortable, but because she couldn’t stop thinking about Tina and the kisses they had shared. She wanted to be close to her and hold her in her arms rather than being on the sofa. ‘Patience, Porteryou’re going to keep your word even if it damn near kills you.’
After about 30 minutes of hearing Bette tossing and turning on the sofa, Tina reached over and turned on the light. The brightness filling the room blinded both of them for a moment. Tina got up from the bed and walked slowly over to the sofa. She stood in front of Bette holding out her hand.
Bette lay there for a moment staring at Tina’s hand and wondering whether she should take it or not but she didn’t have long to wonder because Tina took the decision away from her.
Tina: “Bette this is silly. You are tossing and turning over here on the sofa and the bed is big enough for the two of us. We can both sleep there and I trust you implicitly because you stopped things earlier when things got out of hand.”
Bette: (sitting up as she reached out to take Tina’s hand) “Are you sure?”
Tina: (smiling) “Yes, I’m positive.”
Bette stood up and let Tina lead her over to the bed. She crawled across the bed and got under the covers and waited, as Tina crawled in bed beside her. Tina reached up and once again turned out the light. They both lay there in the darkness wanting to at least touch each other but both afraid to make a move.
Tina: (working up her nerve and took a deep breath, turns to Bette) “Would it be okayif we just held each otheras we fall asleep?”
Bette: (smiling into the darkness and reaching to pull Tina into her arms) “It would be very okay.”
Tina turned so that she was laying comfortably in Bette’s arms while Bette lay there gently stroking her hand up and down Tina’s arm until she heard Tina’s breathing change indicating that she had fallen asleep. Bette softly kissed Tina’s forehead and said, “Goodnight baby” before she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

I’ve been able to catch some of this lately…started late. Very sweet and fun. Poor Bette, though. I imagine the holding would be satisfying, yet maddening.
I love this story, it’s so sweet and it’s definitely one of my favorits.

Awwwwwwwwwww, that was so sweet. Way to go Bette, even though we know it was killing you, but timing is everything. You guys are awesome, you can just somehow picture the whole scene, and Tina in bunny slippers too cute.
Again, Tina is one strong woman to resist our lovely Ms. Porter. My wife said if there was one person she would allow me to cheat with, it would be Bette. Tina, you are much stronger than I.
