    Lucky in Love (Chapter 11)

“You can give me cooking lessons anytime,” Helena said as she teased Lara’s lips with her own.

“Technically, that wasn’t cooking, it was prep,” Lara answered before flipping Helena onto the rug and starting round two without missing a beat.

Dana’s foul mood continued into the evening. She’d grudgingly taken the Motrin and accepted the alternating heat and ice packs Alice insisted upon, but stayed to herself as much as possible. She was exhausted and knew this wasn’t Al’s fault, but she was pissed and Alice was there, so Dana was trying to avoid doing anything stupid. Alice was working hard not to misinterpret Dana’s silence as blame, but since she already blamed herself, it was a losing battle.

“I’m so sorry, Dane,” she said with tears in her eyes. “”I should have let you do this on your own time.” Dana’s heart broke when she saw Alice’s face.

“Oh, baby, no,” she said. “If you’d done that, I would never have picked up a racket again. I’m not mad at you. I’m pissed at myself.”

“Why?” Alice climbed onto the bed with Dana.

“I found out that I can play and what’s the first thing I do? Push myself so hard that I’m actually injured and can’t get out there again for a least a week. You gave me a wonderful gift and I spoiled it.”

“You didn’t spoil anything, but I’m going to take the pressure off. I told Gail that you’ll be umpiring, not playing.”

    “But…”

“No buts,” Alice took Dana in her arms. “When you’re ready, you and Harrison will work at Beth’s and if you’re up to it, you’ll make a surprise appearance on the courts at the event. If not, there’s always next year.” Dana knew Alice was right and was happy that she’d taken charge. She changed the subject.

“So, Shane and Beth Kenyon, huh? Do you think Carmen knows?”

“That’s one for the chart,” Alice said with a wicked smile. “And I don’t think so. Carmen called while we were at Beth’s and Shane wouldn’t tell her anything, which made her mad. I know you needed to know one way or the other first, but you might want to think about letting the rest of the family in on this now.”

“I’ll call Shane in the morning” Dana agreed. “Listen, if Charlie follows me home, can I keep him?” She was half serious.

“What is it with kids and dogs and you?” Alice gave her a playful squeeze.

“I swear Al, Angelica and Charlie are the only two who ever liked me in my whole life.” She grinned mischievously. “But did you notice that the more I ignored Charlie, the more he wanted to show off for me?”

“That’s because he has a crush on my woman.” Alice teased. “It’s a good thing that boy is a different species or I’d have had to kick his cute, flirty canine ass to the curb.”

They lay together quietly as Alice continued to gently massage Dana’s arm and shoulder.

“I have something for you,” she said softly when she was finished.

“You shouldn’t have…” Alice stopped Dana by taking her hold of her left hand and producing Dana’s rings. Their eyes locked as Al slipped them back where they belonged. “Forever, baby.”

“Forever,” whispered Dana as they sealed their commitment with a loving kiss.

    1. Hmmm, Tina’s response to Bette’s statement/accusations seems glossed over, like you wrote just to get it over with. I expected more dialog and a more pensive reply, but you’ve moved them along so we’ll see where else you take them. I have to admit I only read the Bette Tina parts of this story.

    2. Lara and Helena was hot (hope they got all the onion off though…might not smell too hot later…lol) I am glad Bette and Tina forgave each other…I was hoping that NC-17 rating was for them…but it would be too soon I guess…at least let them get home first…lol.

    3. Just back from a couple of weeks away and catching up on your story and it is still amazingly wonderful. I still quite like Helara as a description for Helena and Lara mix, but you are the master and you of course know best, as always. X

    4. I’m floating in happy place called Danish Land.:) Great update. Even though Dana pushed herself too far, I’m still very proud of her. She’s a fighter. I’m glad to see Danish happy together. Awesome job. Sharapova! I just watched her win the U.S. Open. My two favorite players were against each other. Sharapova and Justine Henin-Hardenne. It was an exciting match for me. I love this fic. I’m enjoying it very much. I can’t wait to read more.

    5. I think you found the good mix between love, soulmates and best friends between Alice and Dana. They know eachother so well and it’s so nice to read some really happy Danish. Through some tennis in there and it fits. Keep it up, your story makes me smile…thanks for that!

    6. that was so sweet between alice and dana; and i usually only read for bette and tina…so more b and t please…but i’ll keep reading anywayz now i’ve discovered your story…PPS

    7. awwww this is sooo fucking cute!!! can’t wait to see what happens next. I LOVE DAnisH! and bring bette and tina back together, good for them for working it out.

    8. “Listen, Al, if Charlie follows me home, can I keep him?” -how cute is dana?? this was such an all around sweet chapter for all the couples. although i’m sure it’ll get complicated again when bette finds what she thinks is the right time to tell tina about the artist. poor tibette. i thought u wrote dana’s return to tennis perfectly. she would have of course pushed herself too hard. i liked how alice knew the moment when dana began to hurt. very well written. loved it all! looking forward to another post
