    More Than a Feeling

"Hi." Alice said shyly when she thought Dana was close enough to hear her.

"Fuck you." Dana said, passing Alice by.

Alice stood there, stunned, for a moment. Then, she started after the sporty brunette. "Hey! Wait a second!" She ran, but Dana was fast. "Dana!" Alice shouted, quickly running out of breath.

Dana turned a corner without looking back, and Alice sprinted after her, panting. "Dana…Da…JESUS JUST WAIT UP A SEC!"

Dana stopped moving forward, but kept running in place, turning to face Alice, who was still trying to catch up. "You have thirty seconds."

Alice stopped in front of Dana, heaving, resting her hands on her knees as she doubled over. She gulped in as much oxygen as she could muster, wheezing. "Fuck." She hissed breathlessly. "I need to start working out…"

"Twenty seconds!" Dana shouted impatiently, kicking her legs higher and higher in irritation.

Alice straightened up as her breathing evened out, but she was nowhere near rested. She expelled a loud breath, putting her hands on her hips. "I’m sorry. I feel like such an asshole… and you have every right to be mad at me. But I’ve seen the error of my ways, and I promise it’ll be different."

Dana tried to be strong, but broke. "I waited for you for an hour Al!" She stopped running. "You have no idea how stupid I felt!"

"I’m sorry. I am, I really, really am." Alice grabbed her elbows, running her hands down Dana’s forearm and grasping her wrists. Tears glistened in her eyes. "Please, just one more chance. I promise to pay attention to you and only you."

Dana wriggled her arms from Alice’s grasp. "I don’t know. I don’t think I trust you."

"You can trust me. I am so trustworthy. Ask anyone. Ask Bette! She can trust me with anything!" She was practically begging and she knew it, but for some reason, she didn’t care. "Please Dana. You won’t be sorry."

Dana tore her gaze from Alice, shaking her head as she wiped the sweat from her upper lip. "I have to think about it."

    "What?"

Dana shrugged, and started running in place again. "I have to think about it. That’s the best I can do."

Alice sighed, nodding slowly. It was a start. "Okay. That’s fine. You think about it. I’ll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah." Dana replied, and then turned, running away. Alice watched her go, that anxious feeling in her stomach only growing.

    —————-

Dana Fairbanks loved to run almost as much as she loved playing tennis. She could release tension, get a good workout, and put all of her thoughts in order. It was the only time she felt completely at ease with everything. She felt like Superwoman, flying past all stationary objects at breakneck speeds, leaving all of her problems behind for just a little while.

But for this run, her problems decided to follow. As she sprinted down the block, she thought about everything plaguing her. Alice had been neglecting her for some time, infuriating her beyond all reasoning. But really, who could blame her? Sneaking around wasn’t easy when you the most popular person in school. It was a million times easier for them to get caught…and maybe Dana sort of drove Alice away. Did she? Did I? Did I drive Alice from me?

There were several occurrences during those two weeks where Alice did want to go off to the eraser room, or someplace else to make out, and Dana refused, because she knew someone would see them together. After a while, Alice stopped asking. Maybe I did drive her off, which made it easy for her to forget about me.

And what about Lara Perkins? What was her deal? Why is she so interested in me? And what exactly did she mean when she said I would be her number one priority? Is she in to me? Can she tell I’m gay too?

    This is all too much.

    1. Okay done, and i must say, great post manda. I’m feeling really bad for bette but then again i understand where tina is coming from. But c’mon t! relaxxx a little. Anywhooo btw, alice running to dana was hilarious. Hmmm and maybe dana did drive al away. I hope they can work things out, but now that lara is in the picture i dunno. Can you tell i love this story?..lol oh! and i can’t wait to see what happens to carmen and shane…PLEASE POST SOON MANDA!..lurveee ya

    2. Damn and I thought I had it bad about not feeling like I can be open. It can’t be easy when you’re that popular and feel like you have to hide. Casey can get run over by a bus, or Carmen’s van. B&T are cute as always. Man I don’t think Bette was the only one who totally got “blue-balled.” LOL I remember those days of being afraid of going too far or not being good enough. And dammit now I have to go through it all over again! *sigh*

    3. So Bette is hard up and Tina is afraid -I do believe it’s time for an honest *um* solid chat. I dig Alice but standing up your girl is so wrong, she should marinate in guilt a bit.

    4. Honestly I am such a bad lesbian i.e. female I was like come on Tina give it up j/k (not really). Cause really it’s Bette’s first time too ya know she is also scared. I think it’s interesting how most fanfic writers write the dynamics in their relationship; Bette stud Tina pillow queen. I think when it finally does happen Tina should be the one to get them there.

    5. i love this story…B&T are great, but i hope bette doesn’t have to take too many cold showers for long…shane is really smooth, carmen should be happy…and i sense alice is in deep trouble with dana and lara in the picture

    6. I always enjoy your posts, but this was a bit heavy. Poor Bette, but then again I totally understand Tina and Bette has to be patience and not show how dissapointed she is, when she is all worked up. I don’t think Dana and Alice is right for eachother, they live too diffirents lifes, they should just be friends if you ask me. Keep’em coming…loves this story.

    7. When I see u have posted I always sing ‘what a feeling’ from flashdance… I don’t know, guess that is your themesong ok ? LMAO Thanks for giving us another chappy of your great story! you are incredibly gifted and I am still wondering when your first novel will come out! CU Fellow FFA-er

    8. I agree with slipperynipple when it comes to Bette always being the leader. Tina loves Bette as much as Bette loves her. They do need to talk it out and maybe understand that both are scared about what comes next. Maybe then Tina will be the first one to initiate their coming together. Too bad Shane lives in the type of situation that she does. No wonder she is so introverted when others are around. Hopefully she will get together with Carmen who can bring her out of her shell. And then there is Alice always putting her foot into her mouth. I am hoping that Dana will choose Alice. Lara maybe a nice girl but Alice is the girl for Dana.

    9. And the award for Complete Cluster Fuck of the Week goes to (envelope please)…Alice Pieszecki and Dana Fairbanks! Man, I felt for Bette in this chapter. The sexual healing was so close, yet so far! Well, you’ve written another spectacular chapter Manda. You know I’m looking forward to the next one. Please post soon!

    10. Thanks Manda for another wonderful chapter! I think it’s really time for B&T to have a talk… or else Bette is gonna lose control one of these days :))
