New Girl In Town-The Homecoming- Part 2
"H-H-Hi Lara…." I stammered.
Needless to say I was completely shocked to see her smiling. Smiling….at me. She crouched down, her face close to mine. I could feel my heart trying to jackhammer it’s way through my chest. I was sure I was going to throw up. I didn’t, thank god…that would have been very very embarassing. Lara glanced at my arm, then looked at me with cool eyes.
"What’d you do to your arm?"
"Wiped out yesterday."
"Does it hurt?"
Had it been anyone else I would have replied with some sarcastic remark. But, this was Lara. All I could do was nod as the medic finished up and patted my arm. I grimaced and stood. Lara stood with me and we were caught in a moment of silence. I hated silence, it always gave my brain time to think. Think about Lara, the things I had done…And now, being faced with her I didn’t mind the silence so much. She smiled and kissed me on the forehead, much the way a mother does to her child. I closed my eyes, if this was all I’d ever get again from her I was going to enjoy it. She pulled away and turned when Siobhan and Shane came running over.
"Come on! Kit’s throwing you a party at the Planet tonight." Shane smirked as she grabbed my arm.
Lara turned away, as though she were about to leave when I felt myself grab her arm gently. I smiled and gave a simple nod. One that was both invitation and grovel for forgiveness. She paused, clearly in thought before breaking a smile and linking her arm with mine. Friendly gesture…friendly gesture. I had to keep reminding myself of that, otherwise I would end up making a downright fool of myself….Like I hadn’t already.
By the time we got to The Planet, it was already overfilled with patrons and fellow Lifecycle roadies and cyclists. Kit had done very well with the place, and it was good to see everyone again. I cringed as Siobhan hopped on stage, because I could only imagine what was going to come next. She gave me a wink and I buried my face into my hands. Lara smirked as Siobhan started talking.
