Not Another Word – Bette Porter L Word
Henry’s House –Tina
I remember the feeling of married couples now. The, “Oh, Honey, you remember the time…” blandness of familiarity patters against me as I sit on Henry’s deck with our neighbors, Maureen and Bob, and her sister, Kathy and Rob, her spouse. There is a difference between Bob and Rob. One is an obvious dolt who thinks that by making slanting jabs at Hollywood culture it somehow makes him seem above it. The guy’s a fucking studio accountant. He’s numbers. They change. They have value to very rich people. They can also be zeros. Bob, or is it Rob? He’s one of those, a zero man.
But Henry I do like. He’s quick to smile. He treats my new job with Shaolin, Helena’s studio, as important and real to me. Something Bette would have never done. For her the movies, Helena, Studio City, Hollywood are farcical. Necessities yes, intrinsically valuable? Never. And her judgments fucking annoying but not the reason I left.
I left her because I changed from her partner, Tina, to a mother with a child and the constrictions and abrasions with the courts and state laws and hospitals and every institution that I was now fated as a mother and guardian to deal with allowed me the meagerest rights. And to the homosexual group I’d chosen as my identity? I could see the fight was going to be an intensely long one. Thinking about it wore me out. The creepy adoption lady spooked me. And everywhere I registered and signed papers and filed documents belittled me and my daughter. Bette didn’t see it. To her everything could be solved with grand gestures or dismissed and ignored for another day. I felt apart. I feared going broke. I wanted a man.
I watch Angelica crawl on the grass after Mikey, Henry’s son, a sweet boy and gentle with Angelica. I drink more rum. The late afternoon sunlight on the pitcher of mojitos reflects back gold droplets that race down the hip of the glass. Henry lifts the pitcher toward me disturbing the moisture and breaks the watery circle below. It pools obliquely disturbed from its perfect form. I drink more and barely listen.

Another painful moment in the saga of our girls. I think that I’d feel the same way as Bette at that retreat. Uh, oh! Tina’s got a little secret but Bette is very resourceful. I loved the Senator and Bette. What a smoking’ hot couple. That scotch and sucking fingers scene between the two of them was so erotic w/o clothing being discarded. You have a talent for selecting some of the most provocative scenes from the show and making them come to life with a force not achieved on the show. Well played, Ms. Blackbird.
You write emotions so well I can actually feel Bette’s struggle. You are making me love a season that I hate just because I love your writing. I like how you merge the original plots with your own. Can’t wait to read more. Thank you for sharing with us your amazing gift.
It was really beautiful picture, like you wrote Bette’s pain.
Well, Henry here: (I do not came as a surprise, because you told me (but with him and Cadence, it can chase me out of the World) :)
Wow. what a revolution! Tina has another secret. interesting.
I’m wondering what will be her explanation of Bette.
I think Bette will not easily forget this.
like it,
please posting soon.
It breaks my heart every time I read something like this…*Insert quivering here*…Good thing you didn’t write
where the cheating begin. Or else you would really break my heart to pieces… *Sobbing*
But who’s the prisoner?…
This is interesting. Tina’s dad. I like to see how this pans out.
Season 3 was very difficult to undertand,I hated Tina.Thank you for another great story.
This helps dealing with the awful season 3! How we all screamed with Bette at that Bus Stop!
