Nothing Really Compares – Chapter Five

    Chapter Five

"Yes, she is rich," Bill said. "She lives in the world of art, and art is money."
"She is just a dean at the university!"
    "But she has her connections."
"How much will you ask of her?"
    "Penny wants one million dollars."
    "Assholes!"

The whole gang was there. Alice took the word and said:
"Okay, some of us are gonna keep an eye on Nadia, the others go looking for that woman that handed over the car keys."
"I want to go after the other woman," Bette said immediately.
"I’m going with Bette," Shane said. They agreed that Alice, Helena, Jenny and Max would follow Nadia and that Bette, Shane, Kit, Angus would chase after the other woman.
"She drove away in another car, a smaller one. It was a red Peugeot," Bette said. "I followed her, but I lost her on the highway."
Alice, Helena, Jenny and Max got off to Grayson Avenue. Shane, Kit, Angus and Bette got in Bettes car and drove away.
"If you know something more, call me immediately," Bette told the others before they left. "I have to find Tina and when I do, I won’t let her go anywhere alone for the coming time."

Penny came back. She looked suspicious as Bill, clearly unhappy.
"Bill? You have been able to keep your big mouth shut, have you?"
    "Yes, Penny, of course."
"So you haven’t told her anything? Anything at all?"
"Nope," Bill lied. Penny looked at Tina to see her reaction.
"I don’t know about anything, and I want an explanation," she acted. She could do a bit of that, hanging around on sets all day.
"Well, dear, we want a bit of money. Bill and I here have been sacked, you see, so we need it. Fast. And this is the way to get it fast. If your dear Bette doesn’t come up with a million dollars, you can say bye bye to your life. Imagine how Angies life will be then, and Bettes. They will be devastated."
Tina bit her lip. She decided not to speak any longer, not to this horrible, hideous woman.

Bette was on the highway with Shane next to her. Kit and Angus were in the back. She had no idea where she was going, she had already passed the point where she had lost the red Peugeot last time.
Her cellphone rang, probably something with her work. She looked at it and saw an unknown number. Well, worth the try.
    "Bette Porter speaking."
"I have got Tina Kennard," a deep man’s voice said.
"Where is she?" Bette asked anxiously. "Where is she? What do you want from her?"
"I want something from you. I need a million dollars, tomorrow, 11.30 PM at the bridge."
"What bridge? Who are you? Why do you think I’ve got that kinda money?"
The man had hung up. Bette put the car aside and looked at the others.
"We need money. Lots of money."
