Nothing Really Compares – Chapter Two

    Chapter Two:

"It’s gonna be okay, Bette, I promise."
Alice was holding Bette close. It felt a bit weird, comforting Bette. Bette was always a strong, independent caretaker, but Alice was glad she could so something for Bette by supporting her. The others were still looking for Tina, and they were all worried sick.
"Look, I know it’s hard, but… has Tina got any enemies?"
"Not that I know of. It’s just… the phone tree always works, doesn’t it?"
"Well… there are always exceptions. We will find Tina, we will. I am sure."
"I don’t want to live without her, Alice," Bette cried. "I love her so much. She is my life, my love, my world, I am nothing without her."
Alice held Bette a bit closer. "I know, Bette. I know."
"What did she do wrong to deserve this? What did I do wrong?"
"You did absolutely nothing wrong. Nobody deserves something like this."
"I want her to come back!" Bettes troat was aching and she had a terrible cough. She blowed her nose for the millionth time.
"I miss her so much. I want my Tee back."

Bettes phone rang, but she didn’t take it. She looked at Alice with a begging look in her eyes.
    "Can you take it, please?"
"Course." Alice hurried to pick up the phone. She saw it was Shane.
"It’s Alice," she said. She listened to what Shane had to say and jumped up. "Thank you so much! We’re coming right away!"
Bette looked at Alice, asking her what happened with a single look.
"Shane thinks she might have found something. She asked us to go the Planet."
Bette felt an unbeatable hope rising up inside. She didn’t care for such things like make-up, hair or clothes. She took a pair of trainers and grabbed a shirt, got rid of her PJ’s and got dressed.
Alice and Bette were already outside when Bette realized she was wearing one of Tina’s trainers.

"The phone tree gave results," Shane said when they were all gathered. "There was this girl, I believe her name is Cheryl, saw Tina in the Shebar."
"Shebar? What was she doing there?" Bette asked. She couldn’t imagine Tina in that place.
"Cheryl said that Tina wasn’t alone, she was with a huge woman. She looked kinda scared, didn’t say a thing."
"How do we know it was Tina? How does Cheryl know Tina?"
"Well… Cheryl is this fan girl hanging round on sets a lot. Says she recognised Tina immediately, thought it was a weird situation."
    "Where can we find her?"
"Cheryl saw the huge woman and Tina drive away in a blue chevrolet, a van. Max, can you do something with that?"
    "I can try," Max answered.
"I guess the rest of us can start with looking around for blue chevrolet vans in avenues."
"Shane! If we have to start with that, we can keep going forever. We need more details," Bette said frustrated.
"I’m gonna ask around for more information," Shane promised. The others did the same. They had some more to look for: blue van, chevrolet, huge woman.

"Ms Fields?" The receptionist asked friendly.
"Yes," a huge woman barked. "I made a reservation. There would be a room when I arrived."
"I am truly sorry, Ms Fields, but we have no rooms available. Who did you have on the phone?"
"What do you mean? Reservation! That means keeping a place free for someone. I don’t know who I had on the phone. It was a guy."
"Tom. There’s only one male receptionist. Typically Tom, he will have forgotten to note it. He is not receptionist, actually. He just jumps in every once and a while."
"Do I look like I care? I need that room!"
"I’m sorry, ma’am. I will discuss it with my boss. If you leave an email address, we can do you an offer to compensate."
    "Ridicolous!"
The huge woman who had identified as Ms Fields left the hotel furious. She got in her blue van, a chevrolet, and speeded away.
