    Oasis Part 3

There was a shocked silence.  I wonder if any of them have even realised the implication of my announcement.  I doubt it, and that makes me smile.  As much as I love these people they couldn’t see a tree from the forest.

“You’re having a book published?  When did you learn to write?”  Alice, ever dependable Alice.  She will always ask the most pertinent questions.

“I am having a meeting about potentially having a book published.  It may not happen, as the story is told mainly in photographs.”  I explain.  I am really excited about the potential of having something that is totally mine out there in the world.  More importantly, I am excited about telling a story a boy that the world gave up on.

Kit studied me like she was waiting for me to say something, do something.  I don’t know what she wanted, she’ll tell me soon enough.  Kit, she doesn’t do restrained.  “Why?  What’s so important about this child?”

“He was just a kid Kit.  A young voiceless boy in a vacuous place that no one cares about because George Clooney isn’t talking about it.”  My voice cracks.  “We live in a celebrity fucking state an I am fucking sick to my stomach of hearing about what they deign to be important.”  That isn’t where I had intended to go with the conversation, but I’m angry.

Shane breaks the tension, “this is you B.”  The affirmation of my friend, my confidant was timed brilliantly.

I smile at her and salute her with my beer.  I’m unquestionably excited about the project, but have no desire to get into the details of it on such a nice night with my family.  People I missed beyond the telling of it.

Helena artfully draws the attention away from me, leaving me free to watch my family interact.  There is an obvious love that they share for each other, the small touches of reassurance, of acceptance.  Or in Alice’s case to keep her somewhat upright after consuming one to many beers.

I lean back in my chair and put up my feet.  The good food, and good beer are making me sleepy, but I don’t want to end the night.  Not yet, it’s just too soon to send them home after being absent for months.

    1. Both of your stories are awesome. i hope Bette is OK, yet I feel like her something is wrong. I hope I just didn’t guess what it is. The idea of her a a photographer is great, I really can see it. PPS

    2. We have turnabout on almost all the characters, i.e., playing different roles within this story. Okay, so Bette has some kind of illness, that was alleded to in the first chapter, think I read that. Can hardly wait to see what happens next.

    3. Nice update there. So Jenny works at the publishers?Hells and Winnie, Alice has an unexpected eye for things though i just font know how she does it.Somethings wrong with Bette i know it i can feel it in my bones :(

    4. Hello My Beautiful Dee… so much subtext so many intense emotions that set the mind afire and the soul ablaze… I love how playful and personal Bette’s relationship with Alice is… it’s a beautiful kind of intimacy they share with one another that is such a powerful bond… I love the idea that Bette is a photographer beyond the JB reference it is such an art I feel her character would be so good at… she has such and eye and so much passion to capture the true beauties and darkness’s of the world… so ever she realizes that not is all right in her world… there is a darkness there… I can smell the lavenders… a healing of the mind and soul… your ability to interweave exceptional messages and meanings within your story is uncanny… you my incredible friend… you are amazing… never compromise who you are my friend… your literary soul is a place of beauty and intensity… mucho love and hugs, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and ever loving Cuzzie to the ever talented Eunichick and Newly Crowned Cuzzie to T_Daze)

    5. Hi, Deean! Now we are understanding more Bette’s ranting when her friends dismissed her idea about publishing the photos of an unfortunate kid. She’s a free-lance photographer for National Geographic! Wow! Something is definitely wrong with Bette. Perhaps an illness she caught in one of her trips. Her symptoms may resemble “Malaria”, but we rather wait till you let us know. This tale is becoming quite interesting, Deean. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks.- Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick)

    6. I am just waiting to know what is wrong with my Bette! I still have to say that Alice, and Bette’s interaction with her reminds me much more of a child/adult relationship, than two adults.
