    Oasis Part 4

I woke at 3 in the morning, still wrapped in the towel from my shower.  I wasn’t sure how I managed to fall asleep, I recall feeling dizzy and the need to sit down and relax a moment.  9 hours later I wake up, cold and with a hell of a backache.

Crawling off the bed, it took me a moment to find myself as I was still a little light headed, probably because I haven’t eating for over half the day.  I contemplated getting something to eat, but the idea twisted my stomach.

At least this told me one thing, it wasn’t anything serious.  Probably just the flu, something which I had had one too many times.  My head was pounding, and a cough caught in my throat, followed by another and another.  Minutes later the spasms calmed and I could finally try and catch my breath, wincing at a small pain in my chest.

Great, tomorrow night, no tonight is Al’s big awards dinner and I’ve gone and picked up the flu.  On the way the the National Geographic offices in the morning I’ll have to pick up some over the counter medication.  That’d deal with the symptoms enough so she could have an enjoyable night, without her friends watching her like a hawk.

    **********

There are days that I love my job more then others, and today I equally loved and loathed it.  I’ve been asked to go back overseas again.  They are doing a special on the damage that oil is having on some of the greatest reefs of the world.  I’ve been asked to go and dive 3 of them.  I usually photograph people in their homelands, or displaced, all over the world – not animals.  Sometimes I make an exception.  This may be one of those times.

I love to dive, there is something incredibly freeing in being so close to eternity.  In swimming with creature and predators which have been on this Earth for Millennia.   There is a beauty that comes with the age, the primeval harshness of bodies designed, not for aesthetic beauty – but for a purpose.  To kill, to survive or to evolve to live in the waters.

These animals, who survived earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanos and meteors were getting wiped out because man kind wants more food then the Earth so graciously supplies.  Because we travel in or diesel boats so close to the reefs that it damages the delicate ego-structure.

    1. Yea, I’m sticking with it. In this chapter, Bette sounds like she is really sick and doesn’t want to admit it to herself. I haven’t read anything that says she smokes so it must be soemthing that she has picked up in her travels. Hopefully it won’t be life threatening but anything tropical or something from the middle east may be just that. Hope not. Post when you can.

    2. Dearest Deean: As you are adding other elements to the characters you are making this story more interesting and with lots of possibilities. Bette obviously has a weird illness, which she confuses with the flu. Hmmm We love Dana overcoming her shyness and that she is a musician. -We really liked Dana in the show.- Alice numb responses are just priceless. Hahaha Bette certainly needs medical attention. It seems she is being obsessive about not letting her friends know that she is not feeling well. We think her friends would be more than willing to help, if she lets them to carry on. Thanks for this magnificent update, Deean. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks. – Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick)

    3. Bette should really see a DR. If she is coughing a chest hurting.she shouldnot be diving, air bubble in her lungs. Dana a singer, sound good to me. thanks

    4. wow im first Dana as a musician really…you know something i can see that but she does need to do something about that confidence.Bette needs a doc im sure of that and what happened to Alice i mean she was dead beyond the means of extreme.Loved the update cant wait for more.

    5. Hello My Beautiful Dee… Ok… that is freaking HOT… Bette on a motorcycle… *THUD* OMG… so freaking sweet… I love how in-tuned with nature this Bette is… she really does seem like someone who values the beauties that the earth has to offer and her mind is a whirlwind of knowledge… it was so cute how she reacted to Alice being all sloshed… the idea of Dana as a singer is such a powerful one… it seems that art is a common thing amongst these friends… I’m still wondering what is wrong with Bette… its more then a flu… maybe these recent rumblings are a flu but there is something deeper… hmmmmm… the idea that Bette will travel and we will see how these ladies react and interact as she comes and goes is so neat… once again you have completely blown be away with your sheer talents and willingness to continue to move forward… much love and hugs, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and ever loving cuzzie to the ever talented and lovely Eunichick and Newly crowned Cuzzie of T_Daze)
