Planet Terror: Ode to the Ones who Must Pass Their Exams
You hear the door slam
And realize there’s no where left to run
You feel the cold hand, and wonder if you’ll ever see the sun…
“Folks, this is your captain…” A shout from the front of the helicopter interrupted Lara, Dylan, Catherine and Helena’s loud and heated discussion. Bette’s grinning face looked around the front seat at them. Her smile covered the anxiety she was feeling. “We have arrived in sunny Hawaii, and we’ll be starting our descent momentarily.”
Only Alice, Shane and Jenny were relaxed. Shane and Alice were playing cards while Alice listened to music.
“Cuz this is thrilllllleerrrrrr…” Alice bopped along to an old walkman they’d found on their travels. Her singing was atrocious, and the song was not one that any of the others would have picked at a time like this. “night creatures crawling the dead start to walk in their…whatevverrr..something alien…end of the liiiiine…oooooo…” The chopper touched down and the others began to slowly move out. Dylan headed up the group, her guns trained on whatever might meet them.
“It’s fine.” Bette hurried the others out. Alice followed the group slowly, waving at Shane and still singing. Jenny was totally out of it. She stared silently ahead with bloodshot eyes.
They had landed on the roof of a hospital. They were completely alone. An eerie silence buzzed in the air around them.
A low, deep voice spoke behind Lara, Dylan, Catherine, Helena and Bette as they stood at the edge of the building, looking at the streets below.
“Darkness falls across the land…” It was Alice, winding up again. “Creatures crawl in search of blood to terrorize your neighborhood…The foulest stench is in the air, the funk of forty thousand years…”
“ALICE ENOUGH!” Angry voices—Lara’s included—shouted in unison.
“What should we do? As usual, we don’t have consensus.” Bette addressed the group, her hands against the small of her back. She was sore from days of sleeping on the stupid helicopter.
“I think we should just keep going.” Dylan looked fearfully about her.
“And then what happens when our chopper falls apart in the air?” Lara shook her head, completely frustrated with this turn of events. She was also frustrated with her girlfriend, who had spent much of the last 24 hours singing old Michael Jackson songs and playing cards with her zombified friend.

I would wager that in the history of the universe the phrase “Tina’s deadness issue” has never appeared in print. As for “Jenny was totally out of it,” I’ve always maintained that human Jenny and zombie Jenny are one and the same. Will zombie Jenny adopt zombie dog? Loved the Bettie Page shout-out!
I did not try to eat and read this, learned my lesson
it occurs to me that i did not explain this chapter very well. it is an homage to all of the bad crap in horror films…to Return of the Living Dead, one of my least favorites of all time, and to every other film where the protagonists don’t have any sense of priority or caution or intelligence. i should edit this and make the sex scene longer probably…ha!
helebette, I think we all get the horror movie convention of nosing around in the wrong places: basement, attic, if its Phantasm you go play in the mausoleum. Its enough to make you think that the zombies aren’t the only brainless ones walking around. However, lengthening the sex scene(s) is never a bad idea.
Aw … thank you :-D .. you make me want to listen to thriller. I knew they should have shot the researchers when they had the chance … can’t trust those kind of people *wink* .. Bette should have gone all trigger happy and taken them out … I’m always tempted to yell at them when they say they’ll be fine .. *sigh* mark of a good horror i suppose … more is coming soon yes?
Those girls sure have some strange ideas. And an odd sense of priorities. Uh…nobody on guard duty knowing the wacky Mr. Blue and company have keys?
Rufus! … that’s an awesome idea .. Zombie Jenny should so adopt the zombie dog!!
Okay… I see no need for Tina to be un-undead… her brain was snacked on, yes? So let’s leave her off wandering the streets. There’s no place for her in this story, is there? If she’s about, you’d have to clean things up and I like everything being down and dirty with Hels and Bette. Did I really just say that? My TiBetting credentials are now mud. Anyhow, the chapter… I really, really, *really* hope that someone’s alert and has guns to the ready to mow down that blasted research crew. I do not like this turn of events *at all*. And you’re not posting til you get your abfab chap up? I’ll wanna read that too, but argh, I’m going to go spare with the waiting… Great stuff helebette, more soon, please…
