    Prodigal Chapter 21

Carrie and Angie came back to the hotel to find Alice still passed out on the couch.  “Aunt Alice is still sleeping,” Carrie stage whispered to Angelica, positioning her baby chair on the coffee table.  “We’re going to wake her up.”  Briefly, Carrie ran to the little kitchen in the suite to retrieve two bottles of water and some advil.  Alice wasn’t going to feel great when she woke up.

When Carrie returned, Alice had one eye open and it was focused on the baby.  She groaned loudly and rolled onto her back.  “Please tell me Bette and Tina aren’t here.”

“They’re not.”  Carrie said.  She lowered the bottom of the cool water bottle onto Alice‘s forehead.

“Aww, thank God,” she said, taking the sweating bottle.  She glanced back at the baby.  “Then, where’d you get the munchkin?”

“You’ve been passed out longer than you think,” Carrie teased.

Alice‘s eyes shot open in time to see Carrie’s ***** eating grin.  “You aren’t funny.”  She sat up and downed half the bottle of water in less than three seconds.  Carrie tossed the bottle of Advil into Alice‘s lap.  “You are my hero,” Alice laughed softly.  She was in a lot of pain.  “So seriously, baby girl, what is she doing here?”

“My sister, your friend, needed to go and talk to her wife, Angie’s other mother, and being the amazing woman that I am I volunteered to take care of my niece,” Carrie explained as she sat on the coffee table and offered Angelica her finger to suck on.

“They’ll probably just end up having ***** all afternoon,” Alice said dismissively.

“At least someone will be,” Carrie answered, tickling the baby and making her giggle.  Carrie’s cell phone began to ring.

“Is that Naughty by Nature your cell phone is playing?” Alice asked incredulously.

“Yeah, Feel Me Flow,” Carrie answered digging through her bag for the phone.

                “That’s awesome.”

Carrie smiled at Alice and checked her phone.  “It’s my mom.  Watch the baby for a sec?” Carrie asked.

“Love to,” Alice said, waving her away and reaching to pick a smiling Angelica up.

“Hey, mommy,” Caroline said as she closed the door to the bedroom behind her.

    1. Great chapter, Iloved that they finally talked and I love the change in Tina’s mother. I see a visit from here mom further down the road. Now that they have talked about thier seperation, it will be much easier for Bette to face her family. Please post again soon.

    2. Reading your story, I had the vision of you (and a few other authors on this site) in a select class of very bright, very precocious, advanced writers.

Your writing is so fresh, so witty, so clever. Ahhhhhhh…you are an definitely an overachiever, and here is your ‘A’! (air kisses on both cheeks – mm-wah mm-wah).

That Caroline Kennedy is a peach, isn’t she? She could be the most dysfunctional person in the world and be justified, but instead, she does good works, contributes to society, maintains the family name and carries on in the face of terrible tragedy. She is to be admired. You have good taste! Her namesake is a peach too – and so are you for coming back to this story!

    3. *singing* So here we go now,
Holla if ya hear me though, come and feel me flow – I love that song. Thank you for putting a smile on my face today and taking me back – way back into time with that one!!

    4. 2 days, 21 chapters and my dog isn’t too happy with me I can tell you that! Let’s not start with the ppl in my life either, I think for the first time ever my voicemail is full!
I love this story. I love the words you use (cabal…metier…to name a couple, yeah I’m a cruciverbalist).
Carrie is adorable, wish I had a sister like that! But most of all I love this BnT. You’re the only writer, I’ve read, that is actually asking Tina why she came back home? I know if I were Bette I’d hate to think that my ex-wife only came back b/c she was sorry for me. So, I’m glad that you’re handling that.
As for Helena – she is the proverbial cross that we must all bear. I hope they figure out a way to crucify her…something tells me that Tina’s parents may play a bigger role in banishing that terror than we think.
Well, I do hope you post again soon and just know that I’ve added you to my fave authors listing.
