Realisation
She gazed out over the ocean, the sun was setting washing everything with a warm glow, everything that was except her. Since Dylan, Helena had been unable to shake her feelings of rejection, hurt and humiliation, Peggy as usual had turned up and saved the day causing her further shame. Dylan had used her just for money that was made perfectly clear when she left the meeting with a cheque in one hand and Danny at her side. What Helena could not get over was how fast she had fallen and how she was unable to see Dylan for the person she really was.
She sighed and walked back inside the house her thoughts interupted by the persistent ringing of her phone. She walked over and picked up the receiver but before she could utter the single word Hello, a tirade of words where hurled at her from the other end of the phone.
‘Where the hell have you been? Why don’t you answer the phone the first hundred times i called? Oh its Alice by the way.’
An involuntary smile across Helenas face. No matter how low she felt the sound of the writers voice made her smile, ‘Sorry Alice i was outside, i didn’t hear the phone until i came back in…’
‘Where’s your cell? I called that too. Do i have to put an electronic tag on you?’
Helena chuckled, ‘No Alice, my cell was inside also and as appealing as an electronic tag sounds i am not sure that i have anything that would go with it.’
‘Oh my God! Did Miss Doom and Gloom Peabody just make a joke?’
‘I believe so’
‘Good that means you can meet me for breakfast tomorrow.’ Alice stated.
‘If i meet you for breakfast tomorrow does that mean you will stop ringing me a hundred times a day?’ Helena asked amused.
‘Er… which answer will get you to meet me tomorrow?’
‘Now that would be telling.’ She smiled into the phone.
Alice groaned, ‘Look you’re meeting me tomorrow and that’s final!’
‘Well if its final then i guess i’ll see you tomorrow for breakfast then.’
‘Ha! I win! I knew i would. You’re so easy.’ Alice declared with obvious delight.
‘You wish i was Alice.’ Helena said in a slightly seductive tone. She didn’t know why she had said it like that it had just felt right but the thing that surprised her more than her own reaction was Alice’s reaction or lack of one. Alice was completely speechless for once, she was in shock not because of what Helena had said but by her reaction to it. She then realised that she had been silent for far too long but still she didn’t know what to say.
