Resolutions- Chapter 4
“Want a warm up on your coffee?”
Lara looked up from her book to find a teenage waitress standing helpfully at her table. Nodding with a smile, she pushed her cup towards the girl. “Thanks.” She glanced around the bookstore’s café. “Looks like you’re getting ready for an event.”
“Mmm-hmmm, just after lunch” the girl replied, “some self-help guru talking about astrology, I think. You gonna stay for it?”
Lara tilted her head as if she were considering the option, and then grinned, “Nah. I’m a little more earth bound these days.”
The teenager nodded sagely. “I hear you. Well, enjoy your coffee.”
“Thanks.” Lara resumed browsing the regional cookbook she’d picked up from the stacks. Since Raven’s Retreat had opened two months prior, she’d been increasingly working Southern specialities into her menus. Combined with talking to some of the local restaurateurs, authentic Appalachian cookbooks had rounded out her knowledge base on local dishes and flavorings.
“May I join you?” A friendly voice inquired a few minutes later.
Smiling, Lara pushed out a chair. “Don’t mind if you do.”
Sandy leaned down and gave Lara a quick kiss on the cheek before sitting down. “Been waiting long?”
“Just long enough to have one and a half cups of coffee and find two tempting recipes to try out. How’s your ride going?”
“Not bad. The tough part is over. Only 14 miles back to camp, and I’ll take that as a cool down.” Sandy peeled the banana she’d purchased at the counter and took a bite.
Lara shook her head. “I don’t get it. You spend all week riding on trail, and what do you do on your weekends off? Ride your bike.”
Sandy laughed. “Talk about the pot calling the kettle….you’re reading recipes on your morning off! Besides, riding a bike pays the bills for me…just like cooking for you. I have to stay in shape if I expect to keep my sponsors.”
In addition to serving as the camp’s mountain bike instructor and trail guide, Sandy was a member of the Cheerwine road cycling team. The season was just getting underway, and Sandy had been out of town several weekends for training rides and races.

I just caught up with the last few chapters, this is so great (and it’s making me miss Lara). I can’t wait to see what’s next!
And it just keeps getting better! I’ll be waiting for the next chapter.
Yup, caught this in time, wow, thanks;) I’m enjoying your regional flavoring of the tale as well, nicely done. And I could totally picture the scenes of Alice and Lara barely missing each other, sexcellent descriptions and placements of everyone/thing! Plus hello, quality wine and chocolate, what’s not to love. The stage is set indeed–love it! By the way, what do you say to having Sandy wear a t-shirt saying “Drama Enhancer”? I chuckled at your comment about her. And goodness can you imagine Lara really coming back on the show and riding off into the sunset with Alice? I guess Tasha is OK but I aint seeing any sparks in that Lace way. Not that I’m a show addict or anything, yikes. OK, looking forward to the next installment, keep up the deliciousness!
Another fantastic chapter, and very well-timed to boot (I was in desperate need of a distraction from work today)! I too loved the scenes of Alice and Lara just missing each other, but “sensing” each other’s presence. It was a really nice, subtle way to show that they are still completely hung up on each other, even though it’s been months since they last saw each other. Speaking of months, I think your time line has worked really well – I would never have guessed that you’d written yourself into a corner! :) And, I agree that it would be fun to see what would unravel Bette’s world, other than dramatic table placements… maybe snakes or some other creepy-crawly critter? That’s why I love this story idea – it creates so many opportunities to reveal interesting aspects of the characters that we wouldn’t normally see. I suppose that’s why people think of camp as a “character-building” experience… sorry, that was a terrible joke. :) Anyway, thanks for another great update… as always, I look forward to reading more!
i love this chapter! you were builging pictures in my head, so this was more a new episode as a chapter. i could see it ;-) the scene in that little store chcolat fetish was so funny, i could smell all the different chocolate flavours. loveing helena for being a chocoholic ;-)so what could i say to our little lace part? i agree with min and blue, that was great! they could feel eachothers presence after all the month, they didn´t see or talk…i´m sure there is someone for sandy, maybe max? if she is bi… lol, i always want to couple…thanks for that fast update, can´t wait to read more! hug, naren
Ack, the near misses! Loved the line about the Taurus, the Scorpio, and the wormhole… actually, that sounds like the beginning of a rather lewd joke. Dark chocolate and cayenne truffles? Does Lara just have a thing for chilies and chocolate? Excellent Gold, I’m so enjoying the story. Can’t wait for the next installment and Al & Lara’s eventual meeting. Thanks
cant wait till lara actually meet alice…..
btw, im having my ap eng language exam tmr…. however im here…. datz how much i luv this story… pls update asap =)
