“Okay Ms. Kennard, that seems to be all. You should be
hearing from us within a couple of days,” the bald man explained as he walked
    me out.

“Great! Thank you so much for your time,” I replied, giving
    him a firm handshake.

As I drove back to my apartment, I replayed the interview
over and over again in my head. It seemed to go great, but then again, that’s
what I had thought about the last eleven. I keep telling myself that what’s
meant to be will be. Why can’t it just be now?

“Why can’t I just catch a freaking break?” I said aloud in
as I pulled into my complex.

I got my bags out of the trunk and began to walk up the
stairs to my front door. Before I even had a chance to find my key, the door
    swung open.

“So? How did it go? Do you think you got it this time? Oh
what the hell am I saying? Of course you will get it. You’re more qualified
    than half of the asshol-“

“Alice! Thanks for the enthusiastic support, but we have had
this conversation the past eleven times. I get it,” I interrupted as I stepped
    past my giddy roommate.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, but seriously Tina, you will get this
job. You can’t keep thinking so negative,” Alice replied.

“I know. Sorry Al,” I mumbled. “I just get so pissed when
they look at me and think I’m there as some kind of joke. The last interviewer
asked if I had gotten lost from the touring school group. I’m 22 not 12!” I
    ranted, walking into the kitchen.

“Well, being a police officer is a pretty tough job, maybe
you could look into something else. You know, like in an office or-“ Alice
    began.

“Al! What happened to being positive?” I interjected.

“Sorry. You will get it, I know you will. And you will make
the best officer ever. Officer Kennard, it has a ring to it don’t you think?”
Alice apologized, sitting down at our kitchen table.

“I sure do hope so. I know I can do this. Hell, it’s all I’ve
ever wanted to do,” I said as I sat down to join her.

“Don’t sweat it, Tina. You got this,” Alice reassured me.

     The
week seemed to drag on. Thursday came around, a whole seven days since my last
interview. I kept telling myself to stay positive, but there really isn’t much
to be positive about when I had already applied to twelve county police
stations. Maybe I should just start thinking about an office job.

    1. Ooooh! So intriguing. I’m liking your start. I love this sight for the numerous adaptations to a TiBette beginning. Please keep it going for a long while. Thanks for the posting! I’m looking forward to your character development. Best to you!

    2. We know Tina will be a 22-year-old police recruit. I want to know how old Bette is because she’s a lieutenant. I have friends who are in law enforcement and one of them is 43 and just became a lieutanent. I am really hoping the age difference is not 20 years.
