Say It. (Chapter 4-6)
(21 Years Ago; Johnson-George Educational Site)
The blonde fully entered the room and shyly stole glances at the adorable, curly haired brunette standing across from her.
“What school are you from, Bette?”
“I am from Carver Elementary, it is like two hours away from here. What about you?”
“Um, I think my school is called Lincoln… or Washington or one of those presidents.”
Bette giggled, “You don’t know the name of your school?”
Tina looked embarrassed when she explained, “Oh, well, I just moved from Pennsylvania a few weeks ago so I haven’t been at the school for very long. I don’t really know anyone there.”
“I just moved from Pennsylvania too! I don’t like the new kids at my school and this field trip seems like a stupid way for them to force me to get to know them.”
Both of the girls giggled and then quieted down in an awkward silence. After a few seconds, from the hall they heard a loud farting noise and then someone from outside their door let out a huge “Ewwww!”
Bette and Tina both cracked up in hysterics and Tina finally broke the laughter with tears in her eyes. “I am glad we can’t smell that! That sounded gross!”
Bette’s chest was still heaving up and down from her laughter and she replied, “Oh yeah, that was definitely a smelly one.”
After the laughing finally trickled down to a few irregular giggles, the girls realized they each felt comfortable in the presence of the stranger.
Tina spoke first, “This weekend does sound pretty stupid. I don’t even like the water; I don’t want to learn about fish and stupid stuff like that.”
“What does your school have to do tonight? Mine is only eating dinner then telling ghost stories,” Bette asked.
“Mine too. We passed the dinner halls on the way here and they smelled gross! I don’t wanna eat there.”
“Maybe we could just stay in this room for dinner? I have lunchables that my mom packed and a whole bunch of candy,” Bette offered, hoping to spend some time with her new blonde friend.
“Yeah! We can have a picnic. That sounds better than eating with the stupid girls from my school.”
“Definitely. The girls from my school are mean too. If you like reading more than make-up: you’re a loser,” Bette huffed.
