Tina pulled off the road heading towards Miah’s house and she saw that her parents were already there. She parked the car in the garage and Bette helped her cover it and safely lock it away as well. Bette waited until Tina slid the garage door close and held out her hand for Tina to take. She did , and couldn’t help the smile it produced. They walked slowly towards the house holding hands while they kicked pebbles along the way.

They walked inside and found her parents laughingly coming down the stairs, Tina’s mother was fighting a losing battle against her father’s onslaught of flirtatious tickling. She stopped once saw that Tina and Bette were watching them and trying to cover up their smiles.

She straightened her blouse and proceeded down the stairs, “Hey Sweetie.”

“Hi Momma.” Tina said as she released Bette’s hand to receive her mother’s outstretched arms. She engulfed Tina in her usual hug and rocking combination, she then took her by the shoulders and looked at her fully.

“I see.” she said as she assessed Tina’s entire demeanor. She then let her go and moved onto to Bette, doing and saying the same thing she did with Tina. She smilingly walked off into the kitchen where everyone heard her let loose a hearty chuckle. Tina’s father walked down the stairs and embraced both girls at once, he pulled back and looked at both of them and shook his head as he followed his wife’s path straight to the kitchen. There both Bette and Tina heard them both burst out into laughter, they looked confused at each other and proceeded to their bedroom.

“Babe, I’m going to take a shower before dinner ok? And don’t go down stairs without me I know you want to eat all the yams for yourself.”

“Do you honestly think I could eat all those yams all by myself?”

“Yes.” Bette said in a straight tone and face. She arched her brow when she received a mock shocked look from Tina. “Now you know…” Bette said shaking her head knowing that Tina would eventually get the hint.

“We’d just smoked like two bags. I had the” Tina had to lower voice as she realized her parents were down stairs and they were not in a house full of loud children, “I had the major munchies.”
