Shane and Molly: A Love Story – Chapter 24

    “Hey,” the woman said.

“Hi,” Shane replied with a crooked smile as she turned back to get her drink. She lifted the glass and threw back the shot, before turning around to the woman.

“Alone again, I see,” the woman commented.

    “Yeah,” Shane said sadly.

“Want to dance?” she asked as she grabbed Shane’s hand and pulled on it a bit.

Shane looked around the room and for a moment considered it. She thought to herself that Molly had hurt her. Didn’t she deserve to feel the same way? But then it dawned on Shane. No. She didn’t deserve that. And Shane realized that she would never want to make Molly feel the way she felt. She loved her. Lashing out at her was the last thing she wanted to do.

Shane pulled her hand from the woman’s grasp and politely declined her offer to dance. She tossed some money onto the bar and left the bar, intent on getting home and apologizing to Molly for her over reaction.

Wanting to get home to Molly as soon as possible, knowing that Molly was probably worried and scared that she had done something stupid, Shane drove as fast as she could. She wanted so badly to take Molly in her arms and tell her how foolish she was and that she was sorry for the way she behaved. She was lost in her thoughts and before she knew it, she came upon a red light. She hit her brakes, but with all the alcohol she had consumed just before, her reaction time was slowed and she slid out into the intersection just as another truck came zooming through. The other driver slammed on his brakes and swerved but clipped the front of Shane’s jeep, sending it spinning. Shane tried to turn into the spin, trying to regain some control of the jeep, but wasn’t able to. The car spun into the traffic light, colliding into it hard. Upon impact, Shane smashed her head against the steering wheel and blacked out.
