It had been a few weeks since Shane and Molly had been over to Bette and Tina’s for dinner. During Shane’s recovery, most of their friends were stopping by and spending time at their house, but Shane could no longer stand the cabin fever and insisted they go “out” for dinner tonight. After they had eaten, they all sat in the living room and chatted.

            “It’s so good to see you out and about again,” Tina said, as she patted Shane’s knee gently.

            Shane smiled warmly as she said, “Yeah, it’s nice to get out. Even if it is just next door.”

            Noticing the empty glasses, Bette stood up and offered to get everyone some more wine. As she grabbed the bottle off the counter, it slipped from her hands and landed in a crash on the floor, broken glass and wine spraying across the floor. “Oh! Let me help you,” Molly offered as she jumped up from the couch, just as Angelica began to cry from her room.

            “Molly, can you get Angie? I’ll help Bette clean up,” Tina requested. Molly nodded and jogged off down the hall to go get her.

            As Bette and Tina cleaned up the mess on the floor, Molly emerged from the dark hallway, holding a now quiet, yet teary eyed Angelica. Molly whispered in her ear and rubbed her back as she held her tightly against her chest. Enraptured by the sight of the woman she loved with a child in her arms, Shane smiled. She was captivated with how natural soothing Angelica was for Molly. Her eyes followed Molly as she walked outside towards the pool, still bouncing Angie up and down and whispering in her perfect little ear. When Molly vanished from her sight, Shane stood up from the couch and walked to the doorway, upon which she leaned as her eyes soon found Molly, bathed in moonlight.

            In the kitchen, Bette and Tina smiled knowingly as they watched Shane become more and more enthralled in the beauty of seeing your partner with a child in her arms, wishing, hoping, dreaming, that one day, she would be carrying yours. Bette eased up next to Shane and in a motherly fashion, laid her hand upon her shoulder. Startled from her reverie, Shane snapped her head to the side to see who it was and upon seeing Bette’s knowing smile, smiled sheepishly.
