“Fuck…….”
Tina stood in the kitchen, looking up suddenly as she heard the expletives coming from the bathroom, this was groundhog day, wasn’t it only yesterday or the day before that she heard the same thing coming from the bathroom.
“Fuck……….”
She walked toward the bathroom as she heard the constant mutterings and ramblings coming from the slight gap in the doorway.
“Bette…?”
“Fuck, fuck, fuck…”
Tina pushed the door open as the swearing continued, her mind expecting to see Bette stood in front of the mirror examining the head of immaculate hair, instead she was faced with a semi naked Bette sat on the side of the bath.
“So… what’s up this morning?” she asked with one eyebrow raised.
Bette looked suspiciously at Tina as the question was asked, “are you mocking me?”
“Of course not, how could you say that?”
“It’s not funny!” Bette spat.
“You want me to pull it out?”
“What?”
“The grey hair you found…”
“Tina…” Bette said in a quiet voice, her eyes downcast.
“Yes…”
“It’s much worse than that?”
“Why, what’s the matter, have you hurt yourself?” Tina became concerned that Bette’s demeanour was very different from the when she found the first grey hair.
Bette remained quiet, her shoulders slumped as she brought her hand to her forehead.
“Bette, babe… tell me what’s going on, you’re scaring me.”
“I can’t… this is awful…”
“Fuck Bette, just tell me…”
“It’s down there…”
“What is? Tell me what is wrong…”
“I’ve got one down there…”
“You’ve got what, down where?”
“Do I have to spell it out?” Bette spat.
Tina raised her eyebrows at the way in which Bette spoke to her, her silence giving Bette the message that she would not reply when spoken to in that manner.
“I’m sorry, I’m just upset…”
“Babe, just tell me…”
“I have a grey hair, down there…”
Tina smirked behind her hand, before speaking, “do you want me to pull it out?”
“Will it hurt?”
“I don’t know babe…”
Bette looked to the ceiling, her look thoughtful before she spoke, “maybe I could dye it…”

I love how you can switch from emotions filled chapters like “Do you remember…” to these hilarious scenes. That’s what’s called talent! I opt for pulling it out, but then again, it’s called denial!

Deja vu! Snow in Antarctica, I’ll be damned. I know these two live in LA, the land of the completely superficial, but life doesn’t come with special effects. Personally, I’ve always thought waxing an exercise in masochism and a flight from the reality of sexual maturity (God damn it! I’m keeping my secondary sexual characteristics!) and hair dying a flight from the reality of maturity, period. Besides, all those chemicals in the dye could pose a health risk to Tina should she decide to enjoy southern cuisine and who would want that? I sincerly hope Bette comes to grips with reality and let her follicles take their natural course. Keep on keeping on, Jo.

Wonderful fun, once again! I love these snippets–they bring a different level of humanity to our girls. Maybe even gently pushing them off the pedestals we’ve put them on, but in a loving way.
