    Situations

Bette stood by the French doors, resting the side of her head against the frame, her eyes downcast.

It was something she had never contemplated happening in her life, and it had affected her more deeply than she could quantify. To say she was devastated was such a complete understatement.

She gave a big sigh, this was going to affect not only her, this would affect Tina deeply too, and she was not sure how she was going to break the news to her.

This could potentially affect their whole relationship; she just hoped their union was strong enough to survive.  She really hoped they could get through it… together.

Tina walked through the front door whistling, placing the shopping bags on the counter, she smiled as she glanced at the counter, the counter in which she had devoured the chocolate cake from Bette’s body, the counter in which in the last week and been used for more of their carnal activities than culinary activities.

Tina had discovered in the last week that Bette had more than a weakness for eating cake from the Kennard platter, and they had spent a fortune at their now jointly favourite patisserie.

She looked around the quiet empty house, thinking that Bette should be home, her car was in the drive, but she couldn’t see or hear her, maybe she was changing or maybe having a swim.

Bette continued to stare out of the window, her lifeless eyes watching the slight breeze catching the leaves in the garden, she took a deep breath, having heard the front door and knowing that Tina would be making her way towards the bedroom soon.

    “Bette…”  Tina called.

Bette turned slightly hearing her name, but not bothering to respond, instead biting her bottom lip to hold in the emotions she was feeling.

Tina turned the corner into their bedroom, seeing Bette standing by the window, noticing the slumped shoulders and the downcast demeanour, her eyes dropping noticing how Bette had already changed into her Levis and a tee shirt.

“Bette… what’s the matter…” Tina gulped, knowing something was very wrong, if the way Bette was looking was anything to go by.

Bette remained silent, not knowing what she could say, not knowing how she could explain.

Tina rushed over to where Bette was standing, her jovial mood now forgotten as her concern kicked in.

“Baby… what is it…?” Tina whispered as she moved the curls back from Bette’s face, trying hard to cover her shock at how bad Bette looked.

Bette stifled a sob at hearing the concern in Tina’s voice.

“Its okay babe…, tell me what’s going on?”

    “I… can’t…”

    “Look at me babe…”

Bette turned her head as a large tear escaped, slowly descending as their eyes met.

    “What’s up… what’s happened…?”

    “I… can’t believe it T…”

“Can’t believe what babe… you have to tell me what’s going on Bette…”

Bette once again looked into Tina’s eyes, searching for understanding, understanding for what she would have to tell Tina, to break the news to her.

    “I’m sorry T…”

    “Sorry for what babe…”

“You are going to hate me…”

“Babe, I’ll never hate you…” Tina smiled.

    “I’ve tried all sorts T…”

    “Tried what…?”

    “I’ve tried lying down…, standing up…, I’ve tried all ways I could think of…”

    “Baby… tell me what’s going on…”

    “I can’t T…”

“It’s okay… you know, it will be okay…”

    “It won’t though; I’m so… sorry T…”

“I bought your favourite cake…” Tina said, trying to cheer up her partner, regardless of not yet knowing why Bette was so depressed.

    “Oh that’s just fucking great…”

“Pardon?”  Tina said taken aback at the sudden change.

“Look…” Bette said as she pulled up her tee shirt.

“What am I looking at Bette, have you hurt yourself?” Tina looked down at Bette’s stomach, the perfect stomach, her eyes dropping to the unfastened Levis; she shrugged, not knowing what she was meant to be looking at.

    “No T… too much… fucking cake… I can’t… do my Levis up!”

    1. One of life’s sad facts: everything comes at a price. No pun intended. However, if they save the cake for special occasions, they can work off a few calories and only marginally miss the chocolate. Sweetness is as sweetness does.

    7. OMFG, Jo, you’re just too much!!! Actually, when you had Bette thinking that ‘this’ would affect their relationship, I was SCARED SHITLESS that it had to do with the Levi’s getting ruined or lost, or something, and then when you had Tina walk on Bette wearing the precious Levi’s, I was like ‘pffew’… SO relieved! But then, you totally got me with the finale!!! God, you’re good! But still, you have no idea how relieved I am that the Levi’s are okay! And well… nothing that a little diet won’t fix, right? … But as it seems to be the topic of your next sit’, I’m off to read that now! But please, please, let the Levi’s be okay and stay around forever… Thanks!
