Some kind of wonderful – chapter 13

    Some kind of wonderful

    Chapter 13

Tina was cursing herself as she waited for the lift to take her to her mother’s apartment. She had stayed with her father the night before and they had ended up sitting up until 2am drinking scotch and talking, Which meant they had been late getting up and going to see the restaurant that her father was considering. Tina had found it fascinating and they had spent two hours wandering around the empty building and then had spent another hour talking about it over coffee. Tina thought the place needed work doing on it but she thought the area was one of the best ones for a good quality new restaurant and they had debated all sorts of points and really got down to the nitty gritty of the pros and cons of that location and that building over other ones that her father was considering.
Tina really liked the apartment but was trying not to think about how cool it would be to live there. She didn’t want her father to pick a restaurant to pour his heart and soul into just because his daughter needed somewhere  to live. Anyway – they had talked about it the night before and if Tina had to get out of living with her mothers she knew that she was welcome to stay with her father. Tina was grateful of the offer of a bolthole.

But now she was running late – she was due to meet Bette who had been working the night before and then they were going to spend the rest of the weekend together as neither had any plans until Tuesday. And her plans the day before had been heavily based on getting an over night bag and getting out of the apartment while NOT being seen by one E. Kennard. That had all depended on a careful plan – she knew what her mother’s schedule said for the day and Tina was getting into the amber zone of the risk of running into the enemy – aka her mother.
Tina managed to get into the apartment and into her room with no problems. She knew there was someone else in the apartment  – the TV was on in the front room- that could mean either or both. Working quickly and as quietly as she could Tina retrieved her overnight bag and started putting some clothes into it. She really needed her wash bag but that was in the bathroom and that would be too risky. Tina decided she would stop at the nearest dug store and buy what she needed  – or borrow them from Bette. The most important thing was not getting spotted and stopped by Emma. Tina popped her head out of the bedroom door and was about to make a run for it when the door to the living room opened. Tina withdrew and stayed still and silent. Which ever mother it was had gone into the bathroom – that would give Tina a few minutes. She grabbed her bag and without stopping or looking round she headed for the front door. Opening the door she was just about free
    “Tina “
    Fuckity fuck
Tina had various options –  go back and face the music which she really didn’t want to do. And as her father had reminded she was an adult – he mother didn’t run her life anymore. She could pretend she hadn’t heard her mother – no – where was the maturity in that ? She turned and looked at her mother
“Sorry mom – I am running late – I don’t want to keep Bette waiting “ she smiled what she hoped was her most sincere smile and headed out.
    That had been close

    1. Been treating myself to an ‘ally re-read’ for a while and my heart skipped a beat today – 11.8.2015 – when I saw a new post ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’. Turned out not to be a new post of this story, although it was by another of my favourite writers on a story I am enjoying. It did lead me, though, to write this comment to solicit another update of this great story.
