    Chapter 154

Bette woke up with a start. She had been dozing on the sofa and now felt hungry and in need of a glass of juice. For a few minutes she just lay and looked around the room taking in how good it was to be home. What had happened had certainly made her appreciate everything that she had – up to now that list had always included her health. So the scare had been a real and very frightening one. Bette was self aware enough to know what of her skills hadn’t returned to her yet. She couldn’t concentrate for very long – medium to long newspaper articles were too long for her at the moment so it was going to be almost impossible for her to read a book. She was got tired much quicker than she could even believe herself but she knew that that would improve in time. She needed to be patient and that was a talent that she had never had too much of in the first place.

Bette wondered where Tina was. If she was honest she was much more concerned about Tina than she was about herself. Tina had been through a really scary ordeal – they both had. The difference was that Bette was aware of the fact and was prepared to do whatever it took to get better – Tina was still trying to be superwoman. Bette sat up and didn’t move for a few seconds – she stood up carefully. There had been a couple of times when she had tried to stand up and had felt dizzy so she didn’t leap up anymore. She stood up with care – aware of what might happen to her. But she felt fine – her stomach was rumbling but Bette regarded that as a good sign. Bette walked into the kitchen – and found Tina. The blonde had started doing some work at the kitchen table – her briefcase was open and a notebook and pen was beside her – but she was asleep at the table – her head resting on what looked like a script. Bette sighed – she was going to have to get through to the blonde that this recovery period was about both of them – not just her. Bette looked in the fridge and took out a yoghurt and poured herself a glass of milk. She ate and drank standing up while watching the blonde who was sleeping peacefully. Finally Bette rinsed her glass out and left it on the sink and moved to the table
