Something so right — chapter 46

    SOMETHING SO RIGHT

    Chapter 46

Helena had told Bette that the Kennards farm was very impressive – that phrase had stuck in her mind and she was interested in seeing what could make Helena – who if anything was more of a city girl than she was – “ very impressed “. Bette took her first look at the Kennard’s place and saw that impressive was a fair description of the front view.

Niall’s car turned to drive through gates that instantly made Bette think of the South fork ranch in “Dallas “. The drive to the house took them past two different aspects of the farm – on one side the huge poly tunnels – Bette could see six and there were more behind the front ones. On the other side were fields. Tina was looking at Bette who had fallen silent while she took in the views of the farm. Tina knew that there was no need to be nervous but she was. This was something that mattered so much to her – that her old life – her parents and sister and brother – that they would accept the new part of her life – the beautiful and urbane Bette Porter. And just as important was that Bette accept and enjoy her old life. Tina loved and cherished her family – having Bette accepted as part of the clan meant everything to her.

The house was made of white wood with three windows on the second floor, the first floor had a traditional porch, at one side of the house was the brick structure of the fire chimney – Bette had only seen a house like that on TV – she was seriously impressed

“Wow – its beautiful “ Bette said

Tina looked at Bette and grinned

    “You like it ?”

“It a stunning example of traditional Americano architecture — just beautiful. How old is it Niall ?”

“We bought the land in the early 70’s -the house was build in the 30’s “

    “After the depression ?”

    “A few years after “

    “Impressive – I love the porch “

“Come on Porter “ Tina opened the car door “ Lets get you inside “

    1. Tina and her Mom are going to have to have the mother-daughter chat soon so things can have a chance of being friendly. I look forward to the meeting of the siblings.

    2. What the hell’s an aga? I don’t blame Sarah a bit. A mother should not be too easily won over. Even so, I’m sure Bette will do so by the end of the visit. If Finn and Willow have already had a chance at the bathroom, can Bette get a little shower action?

    3. WOW bette’s meets mom wonder what tina’s mom needs to talk to her about? i can see these enjoying themselves on the farm, can’t wait tina’s siblings meet bette. :)PPS awesome ally

    4. Funnyone – i can understand most of your questions but an aga ! its a giant oven/stove powered by logs or coal/coke. not everyone cooks solely with the microwave like some people of my close aquaintance !! xx

    5. Don’t take that tone with me Emmerson! I’ve been in quite a few American kitchens, even in older, traditional homes (one or two on farms) and not one of them had a device called an aga. And I can’t help it if I was raised by wolves.

    6. Wonderful chapter. As funnyone remarked, Moms are supposed to be discerning b/c no one is good enough for their baby girls although Bette is a perfect 10+ on a scale of 1 to 10. Bette is just amazingly delicious. I’m pretty good around a kitchen but never heard of an “aga”. Is it short for another word? PPS b/c I love your writing.

    7. Yeah, Tina and her Mom should talk…let’s not forget Niall had that opportunity when he was in LA with Tina. Sarah has just met Bette, so there would be some hesitation…that would be natural. Maybe Sarah and Bette will have a discussion before they leave just like Bette and Niall had one. Great job again Ally!

    8. I like Tina’s mom despite her being tough but it is how most mothers are, she doesn’t want her daughter to get hurt or not to be sure about what is she doing. You are incredible Ally and I totally missed you and your regular posts. Thank you Hun for this lovely chapter and post soonLove

    9. Man, the Mom is kinda bitchy so far. I’m totally down with the fact she shouldn’t be won over in a few minutes by anyone.. but it seems like some of the problem is that Tina’s with a woman. Hopefully I’m wrong and she is just shocked by the fact they are moving quickly.
