    CHAPTER 3

Bette Porter weaved her way through the plethora of aisles, never once shifting her gaze away from the entrance. She wasn’t coming. Tina Kennard wasn’t coming. Bette Porter, for the first time in her life, had been stood up by another woman. The irony of this situation was quite comical; the one woman she wanted was the one woman who seemingly did not want her. Payback, the brunette simply thought. This is payback for every woman I spurned and every heart I ever broke.

She had waited nearly an hour for the blonde to show, but it was all for naught. Bette took her gaze from the door and looked around the sales floor. The holiday season was fast approaching and the bookstore was even busier than it normal. Thanksgiving was just around the corner, and soon after that would be Christmas. It would be her first Christmas in New York, but not her first Christmas alone. Bette Porter was used to being alone during the holidays and yet… she had hoped that aspect of her life might have changed due to her chance encounter with the beautiful blonde woman.

When the fuck did I become so delusional? Bette wondered.

"Oh my god you’re still here!"

Bette turned to find Tina Kennard breathless, her cheeks flushed from the cold.

    "Tina?"

"I’m so sorry I’m late. I’m usually very punctual I just…I had a late meeting and then I was stuck on a conference call. I tried to get down here as soon as I could but the traffic in the city is horrendous. I haven’t been in New York for very long, but you would think I would have figured out a thing like that by now," Tina smiled nervously.

The brunette stared at her with odd, mixed expression of amusement and surprise. Bette was more beautiful than she remembered. Shane was right. It was just coffee, what could possibly go wrong?

She came. She really came. The words echoed and somersaulted in her head. Bette was beyond excited, yet her voice betrayed none of the giddiness she felt, "So, how about that Coffee?"

Tina was perplexed by Bette’s monotone question but nodded in response.

"There’s a place a few blocks from here called The Planet. We can head over there is you like," Bette offered. ‘I know it’s a bit cold so if you’d prefer to take a cab we can do that instead."

    1. LMAO gotta love that bloody domino efect! Oh reeeally love this chap! It spice it all up, well one thing for sure, this’ll be one messy tibette ff, can’t wait! “Because you looked lonely. And you looked like you might be a good lay.” – LMAO!! Oh Bette Bette… Tnx for posting, please update soon!!;))

    2. Dang!!!!, to say I was shocked is an understatement. What the Hell were they thinking? Bette did go a bit too far and I don’t blame Tina for leaving. I do blame Tina for beginning the lies. Bette needs to do something quickly to turn this around. My mind just reeled at what Bette kept saying, and I hurt for them, I couldn’t believe it. Hope Bette attempts to fix this soon. Thanks for posting.

    3. Open mouth and insert Manolo Blahnik. That was a messed up thing for Bette to say and she really should not have reacted like that although that seems to be the theme for Bette in this story. That being said, why did Tina feel the need to lie about having a boyfriend? I’ll tell you why. Because she already has a pre-concieved notion of who Bette is thanks to Shane’s comments about “The Bette Porter”. I can’t wait to see how you work this out. :)

    4. Hey Scaf! Great to have you back with another story! What I’m gonna say might sound weird, but I actually loved this turn of events! I think it was the perfect direction to take. Why? Because, that was so in character! Given the way their first encounter went at the bookstore, I would have been disappointed if they had both fallen into a confortable and smooth interaction with one another right away. I mean, I guess after this chapter they can finally start to take a path toward knowing a bit more about each other other than their respective auto-defence mechanisms, but a too rushed evolution of their relationship would have been unrealistic to me. That’s just my opinion of course. I genuinely think that this is proof that you are a ‘natural’ with writing a beautiful intrigue, the fact that your writing unexpectedly took a different direction. It’s almost as if the characters you created had decided for themselves… Genius! Now, I’m excited to see where you’ll take those two, but for me, that chapter was totally in character and in tune with the chemistry that is slowly settling between them. Long comment I know, but I really wanted to express my feeling about this twist of events. Thanks for the story, you’re a very talented writer! Cheers, K

    5. Hey scaf, What started out so well suddenly flipped and became the meeting from Hell. Tina’s bluntness about her botfriend just brought out the worst in Bette. Suddenly a stream of offense phrase flowed from her mouth and pushed Tina all the way out the door. I was LMAO at this scene. Good for Tina in walking away at this abuse. Now, Bette has some serious ground to recover. I hope she makes it up to Tina soon. Just a great story, beautifully written and constructed. More please. Many thanks fronm Your Loyal Fan.

    6. Happy Thanksgiving!! I am loving the fire and the spice here!!! Was xpecting a hand grab that lead to the inevitable 1st kiss, glad & saddened that it did not happen. PPVVS!!
