“Um, I don’t know Bette. I’ll see. I’ll call you okay?” Tina said on her way to open the front door of her house.
“Okay baby.” Bette smiled, knowing good and well that this was so not going to be a good day.
Tina couldn’t unlock the door fast enough. Her heart sought refuge and she had to get it home. It had no business riding in Bette’s convertible exposed to all the elements of the outdoors. Being around Bette was already too much for it to handle. Tina wondered what she was doing loving Bette knowing that Bette would never fully trust her. How could she? Too much had happened before they even met. With odds already stacked against them, how could they ever win? Was it even worth the effort? Theirs was an unfair game with an uneven playing field from the very beginning. It wasn’t a question of loving Bette. That was easy. How was Bette ever going to put her faith in Tina? That was the question. Tears streaked a crooked path down Tina’s face scorching her skin on the way. With her armor safely in place again, Tina Kennard’s aching heart was pseudo protected. She needed a break from the intensity of Bette. It was too much for her heart to take.

Chapter 16 – Talk to me.
Paul, the walking billboard from the gym, was celebrating his 31st birthday at a trendy new nightclub named Caliente. He had invited half of LA, and his boyfriend Christian had invited the other half. Christian was a personal organizer to the stars and knew everyone that was anyone. After a rigorous Ashtanga session with 4 clients, Tina needed to get out of the house for a while. She was surprised that Bette hadn’t called to check on her but didn’t feel like talking to the woman who held her heart too tightly anyway. Bette was smart and therefore totally cognizant of Tina’s sudden withdrawal. She knew to tread lightly or not at all and chose the latter. Neither had attempted to contact the other, although they thought about each other constantly. Bette had been in an instructor training class for the past couple of days so there was no contact with her estranged girlfriend at work. Tina changed into a pair of faded Levi’s that hugged her like an apologetic lover, a black halter top that accentuated her strong sculpted back and shiny black cowboy boots with a tiny gold sun above the outer ankle of each one. They were a birthday present from her grandfather so she treasured them dearly. As soon as she walked in the packed place, swarms of people buzzed around her. “Maybe I should have just stayed at home.” she thought. Putting on a fake happy face, she strolled over to chat with those she knew and introduced herself to those she didn’t. Several pairs of eyes were glued to her as she navigated the crowd and began working the room as only she could. She had missed this type of attention and it comforted her to know that she hadn’t lost her Midas touch. An endless stream of women approached her on her way to wish Paul a happy birthday. She smiled, spoke to them briefly and continued meandering. She caught a slight whiff of a familiar scent, a sweet and fruity musk fused with the natural sexiness of a beautiful woman. Looking around the sea of people, she didn’t see the woman who she thought may have emitted it.

i’m actually in the process or re-reading your story, i love it so much.
even though i’m not a firm believer in fast starts, i am a firm believer in love, and if you have bette and tina fucking like rabbits within a few days of getting to know one another, then professing their love just a couple of weeks after, that’s fine by me.
i really can’t get enough. just one concern here: is it just sex? i mean, bette leapt into the physical so soon, and she has yet to really, really figure out her feelings for tina. she knows she loves her, but that’s about it. unless you’ve suddenly decided to go third person ltd. and just not let us in on bette’s inner monologue, which, by the looks of it, you haven’t done. so when is bette going to sit down and take a minute to think? same for tina. although i personally think that in this case, tina is the most clear headed of the two. but she still needs to organize.
anyway. tangent. sorry. i just wonder about these things. i just wonder if they’re getting caught up in the moment. even though i know they’re going to work out in the end, the question still looms.
by the way, you write some of the best erotica since herotica posted on here forever ago. just don’t be like her and delete three of your really amazing chapters. that still gets me.

I love this story, but somehow it exhausts me. Part of it might be cos been there and done that. I love Bette, but right now all the pressure seems to be on Tina, like Bette’s just waiting for her to screw up. Problem is if you look and try hard enough anyone can fuck up. Realistically there both in a new world, they just need to stop, breathe and relax, given a chance they might just move forward without so much turmoil. But I do enjoy, just a bit of how they torment each other, watching, anticipating. So glad Tina didn’t try to lie about Catherine, and I don’t honestly think that Bette has any interest in Helena, dosen’t mean Helena’s still not hooked. But at least at the end our girls were making up and moving on to do there thing. Shouldn’t the make-up sex be our next chapter, just wishing.

Anyway, it was sweet of Bette to turn Amaro down. It avoided at least 5 chapters of misunderstandings, explanations and unnecessary heartbreak. Although things do tend to move a little faster than that in this universe, so I guess it would be just about 2 chapters.
I’m glad they talked and reached some sort of understanding. But from what I gather, – and I do realize I have a tendency to side with Tina on almost everything everywhere – the problem in their relationship is this imbalance. Cause Tina wants to give the world to Bette while Bette is just “this is all I can give you. Take it if you want. If you don’t, that’s okay too.”
Right, it’s fair. That’s how she feels and at least she was honest enough to tell Tina.
But come on! That’s just crap. Trust issues my ass!
Bette sat and watched, just like in the club, for Tina to give her a reason not to trust her. It’s like she can’t make a mistake or else she’ll lose the little trst she gained.
I admit at the end it all worked out for the best. Tina learned a lesson and became a better person. Good, I’m happy for her. But please Bette, learn something from it too.
Been there, done that, you know? Keeping people, specially Tina, at arms length is not how you’re going to get over your fear.
You tell her that you’re not quite there yet, which is totally fair, but don’t give her the “take this or nothing” speech! It makes it feel like you don’t care enough, you know?
You wonder if you’ll be “enough” for her. Guess what, you’ll always wonder if you’ll be enough. It doesn’t matter if it’s with a sungodess or a hollywood hottie or a no one. You’ll never really know unless you give it a shot. And if you want to be enough, it better be your best shot. Sitting down and wondering is not going to make your doubts go away.
Please don’t take it the wrong way, I still love Bette. I just feel that she was a little unfair during their last conversation. After all, she’s not the only one who’s got this huge inner fight on account of their relationship. Tina is learning how to deal with all this too, this is all new territory for her. And as mentioned in the story, there’s no guidebook for her…
In the end, I’m happy they’re at least willing to try.

Oh..i dunno why but the situation with Bette leavin Tina’s car with plate and glass loaded and somewhat irked out but STILL not banging the door but closing it carefully..cracked me up. Its funny how people give attention to details like that when they are supposedly in a mood..;-)
