    Sun Salutations: Chapter 5

    5. The Shining Principle

Bette’s cell phone buzzed continuously, slowly zigzagging across her desk as it vibrated.  She didn’t recognize the caller id but answered anyway.  It wasn’t unusual for clients to contact her on her cell so she made it a habit to answer formally.  “Bette Porter” she distinctly enunciated.

“Hi Bette, this is Alice Pieszecki from the LA Times; I spoke with you a little more than a year ago regarding the disappearance of your husband.”  “Yes, I remember.  What can I do for you?”

“Well, um I was wondering if I could get a follow-up interview with you Ms. Porter.  We’re extending our segment to include a second part called  ‘Disappearing Husbands:  Where Are They Now?’ May I schedule another interview with you?”

“That won’t be necessary.  What did you say your name was?”

    “Um, it’s Alice.  Alice Pieszecki”

“Right.  That won’t be necessary Alice because nothing has changed since the time we initially talked.  I’m unable to help you.” Bette pressed the end button and threw the phone down on the desk.

“*****.” she mumbled under her breath.

Bette stood up and went over to the window.  She put her hands on her hips and slid them to the back of her stretch pants as if they had pockets.  Her hands rested in between her waist and butt.  So many thoughts were zooming through her mind.  “Where was Ziggy and why the ***** did he leave me?  Couldn’t he have talked me?  Were things so bad that we couldn’t work them out?”  She closed her eyes and remembered the words Tina spoke earlier “I want to help quiet your busy mind”.  ” Well Tina, it looks like you’re too busy to help quiet my mind, so I’ll settle for a cigarette and possibly a drink instead.” she thought. Bette could see Tina from her office window.  She was in the parking lot leaning against her sparkly burnt orange Murano while Carmen stood directly in front of her smiling with her hands clasped around Tina’s neck.

Bette arrived home to find Lauren and Helena snuggled up on the couch eating a bowl of grapes.  Lauren’s head rested  in Helena’s lap as they took turns feeding each other.  Without delay, Helena hopped up, ran over to greet Bette and kissed her lightly on the cheek.  Lauren’s head immediately dropped from Helena’s lap and abruptly landed on the large couch pillows.  Lauren was pissed.  “Damn Helena, you almost took my head off here.”  Helena returned to Lauren with a warm apology.  “I’m sorry sweetheart; I didn’t mean to. Let me kiss it and make it better.”  Lauren happily obliged.  Helena was so happy to see Bette come through the door that she totally forgot about Lauren.  “I’m ***** slipping.” Helena mumbled under her breath.

Bette poured a glass of vodka, lit a cigarette and carried them both in the same hand to the backyard.  She plopped down in a lounge chair and took a long drag.  She thought about how relaxed she felt earlier in the day while Tina spoke to her.  “It was damn near erotic”, she thought.  Bette couldn’t seem to get Tina out of her mind.  It sure was better than thinking about Ziggy and her previous life.  Taking a sip of her drink, the stressed out beauty forcefully cleared her throat.  “Ahhh.” she growled slowly as the fiery liquid started to warm her. She squinted her eyes and deeply inhaled.  Only it was nicotine and not fresh air that her body welcomed.   She didn’t jump when a pair of delicate hands covered her eyes from behind.  Bette laughed, “OK Spongebob, what’s up? “Well Squidword, you’re up.” the voice replied.  “*****.  It’s Tina.” she thought.  When Bette realized it wasn’t Helena, she braced herself for a lecture on drug and alcohol consumption. “Damn, Damn, Damn” she thought nervously.  Tina removed her hands from Bette’s eyes and sat down opposite her straddling the same lounge chair.  She looked across the small gap of material separating them and noticed a sad pair of dark brown eyes.   “Bette, I was thinking about you and decided to stop by.    When I called your cell phone and you didn’t answer, I came over. I hope you don’t mind.   I’m really not a fan of impromptu visits, but I took my chances with you.”

    1. I’ve read all 5 chapters of this story today. I’ll have to say, I’m eagerly waiting to see what happens next. And although, Helena is rather NICE in your story…reading her name still makes me kinda ill. LOL. I hope Tina settles down a bit and that bet starts taking care of herself…..but, we all know what love can do…and it’s in the air for these two….Great writing, keep ’em coming!

    2. Woo Hooo!! This is one great chapter! I love the way Tina is the “playa” in this one, so aggressive! Damn, that is sexy! And, I love it that she and Helena can go toe-to-toe! That’s right, Tina! Don’t back down. Give Helena a run for her money, Babe! And, Bette, “Get Ur Freak On”, my innocent li’l lady. I love the role reversal here. Great storyline, simply marvelous! Please, keep the chapters coming!

    3. just remember green, im your first, ;). im really grooving to this story. love tina being the shiznit. see i knew hellno couldnt keep up being nice. oh that green (heehee) eyed monster in hellnos eye. hopefully youll get another one in today. loving this. thanks.

    4. Ok, I just read all the chapters. I’m not critic but I can tell you what I like.
      1. I like that though the rolls seems to have been traded somewhat between Tina and Bette (when it comes to the sexual agressor) they still have the same character traits…control freak, being left (bette) warm, giving, gardener (tina).
      2. I like the pace of the story as well.
      3. Liking this Helena even though I’m still wary…she may become a little psychotic with her Bette obsession
4.I’m liking how Tina has to work to get Bette…it’s always the other way around.
There’s more but I’m at work so you know the drill.

    5. YAY I logged on and i had 2 more hcapters to read, and dont apologise for not giving me time to comment cuz then i get to write a longer comment. i love this story, its weird to see bette and helena so nice to each other (most of the time) and i liked how u switched B&T’s roles. post soon!!

    6. I just took in all 5 chapters. I absolutely love the role reversal; Tina as the aggressive playa has me here in stitches.

Somehow my mind cant process Helena as a sweet, caring, nuturing friend….I’m sure the shoe will drop where she’s concerned. Eventually she will have to share with Bette what she is feeling…..hmmm, Tina pursuing Bette, Helena wanting Bette…do we have some DRAMA on the horizon?

      Please post again soon

    7. I just read all the chapters and I must say that I like your story very much. I do hope that Tina will not break Bette’s heart. Is there a reason Tina doesn’t do relationship’s?

    8. hey greentea! just wanted to say that iam enjoying this story..the title caught my eye, ‘sun salutations’ or ‘sooryanamaskar’ (do u know what iam talking about?). u into yoga? thanks for the story!

    9. Wow that was a great fight, I love your twist having Tina and Helena fighting over Bette. And from such different vantage points. Your writing is very fun to read. Thanks for each post and the time you take ( steal from your day) to do this.
