Sunday Mornings: 3 – Seventeen Reasons Why Not …

    Sunday Mornings: 3

    Sunday morning
    Slow beats seething
    Through the screens in
    The open windows
    Eggs frying
    Legs shaking
    After we stayed lying
    So long in bed
    Sunday morning
    Both of us reading
    And looking up occasionally
    Looking up occasionally

Of all the Monday through Fridays
    We joined the crusade
    Of all the Saturday nights
    In which we were made
    Of all the exorcisms
    I’ve done with your ghosts
    Still it’s Sunday morning

Two women under one roof, Bette chuckled to herself, recalling Jodi’s early morning description of the party to her as she dressed to go back to her own apartment. Their day slightly marred by the fact Bette knew Jodi’s meeting with the stiffs at the university the day after wouldn’t go down so well, and following on from that, who knew what might happen between them,

But as she lay beside her, listening to tales of Dawn Denbo and her ‘lover’ Cindy, raining on Shane’s buzz parade, Bette couldn’t help but find herself laughing and wondering quietly to herself what Shane would say when faced with lovers both old and new a mere few feet away,

In her heart of course she knew, Shane’s dalliances a mask for how much she truly admired deep affection. For how long she carried that hurt look in her eye after the dream couple’s split, watching on with a knowing glance because she understood Bette and the things she chose to do, which at the time was both comforting and unsettling to Bette,

Her bed unoccupied now, she sat to the side, peering out through half open blinds to the wreckage out by the pool, clothing everywhere, an empty baking tin which once contained the responsible brownies and beer bottles floating in the pool. A pair of boxer shorts hung off a tree, making Bette gag, before she turned back to stare at the half open door, willing a certain person to wake up and walk through it,

    ~

“This used to be my pool,”

In her dreams, Tina was swimming, still flailing around half naked with Shane in the pool, not caring in the least about Bette or the fact she might be watching or listening,

“I can’t stay here … did you know I used to live here?”

    1. Perfect!!! You write them so unbelievably well… Can’t imagine what it’s gonna be after next week’s episode! These reasons why are just so right and beautifully worded… They (you) basically say it all about what real love is… Because sometimes it is simply wrong to think that love can be found in grand gestures, for true love resides in the most tiny and ridiculous details like the ” lift (of) a heartbeat with a twitch of her eyebrow, a wrinkle of her nose”. But I think your most powerful statement of this love is: “Because for every hurtful moment, every second she watched her with Henry and felt her heart being ripped free of her chest there’d be this tiny little moment, some joke or a stolen glance at her with Angie and the world would set itself right again, spinning them eventually back into each others arms.”… I bow to you, Sofa, thank you.

    2. You are THE BOMB! You are truly one of the VERY BEST writer’s on this site. I love your one chapter snippets like this. It is brilliant, and your words are so incredibly moving. Sofa, you could write twenty chapters a day and I would want more. Thanks hun.

    3. That was as good as I’ve read in many a day on this site. Full of insight into Bette’s inner mood, it seemed like a meditation of what could be again transposed over what has gone before. I loved this and I’ll be looping back to catch some more of your work. Thanks!

    4. very very lovely, even if it is tibette;) kidding hun…i liked especially the attention to those small (seemingly small but are they really? not the way you write them) details that make daily interactions into epic stories. xox
